Day 2

This morning I woke up at 6:30 and it was bright and sunny. There are tons of wild cockatoos and they were going berserk and were quite annoying. Luckily I was exhausted enough to fall back asleep. Now it’s so hot that the only noise are the cicadas. They are so loud!
Today we went surfing at Newport beach. Its strange, all the beaches here have orange sand that is very sticky and doesn’t come off your skin very easily. The surf was very fun. I was in the water for about 2 hours. After that I laid on the beach for a long time. I didn’t get burnt but I feel baked.
I learned a new Aussie word yesterday. I think I’ll make a list of all the strange things they call stuff. For example oregano = rocket ketchup = Tomato sauce cheddar cheese = tasty cheese. This is all I have so far but I’m sure that I’ll have more very soon.
Good News! I got my luggage today unscathed. Its very nice to have some clean clothes. We just finished making some brownies. Baking here is different. You have to measure everything in grams or kilos and the oven is on a celsius scale. Luckily the Santangelos have it down. Ha they were very excited to get the Tapatio and the Graham Crackers. Two of the many things that they don’t have here in Australia.
I had my first savory pie today. It was a curry lentil one. It was very good. Savory pies are a very big thing here. There are pie shops all over the place. Usually the pies contain chicken or lamb, but there are all kinds of combinations. The pies are served hot with tomato sauce. Its too bad that we don’t have pie shops in the states. A nice warm pie would hit the spot after a cold surf at virgin creek.
Well I’m gonna go now. Gotta live it up before school starts. I’ve got 2 days left. I’m nervous and excited. But also kinda bummed. I like just surfing and hanging out.

Chet sounds like your having fun..wish I were in Australia!!! It's cold and rainy here and I just heard its snowing in Eureka...weird weather. The brownies look really good.. I made an apple pie yesterday so we just ate supper of chicken enchalidas and pie for dessert.. Good to hear from you love grandma
