Colorful, isn't it?
Bonjour mes amis!

So I moved in with my host family a few days ago and they're very nice. They're not really traditionally French but I'm having a good time and learning a lot of French. My host mother has lived in the states, Canada, Mexico, Morroco, Japan and France, and she wants to move to India next. I live with her and her daughter, Dora-Ly, who is 14 and very sweet. French adolescents act much more maturely than American ones, she acts like an 18 year old American. Because they've lived all over the world, my host mom cooks food from tons of different countries. I don't think she really knows how to cook French food, otherwise she just doesn't. But we do have French deserts quite often and wine, of course, each night. My famille d'acceuile (host family) is a little new age--they eat mostly organic and vegetarian (so yes mom, I am eating my vegetables) and they don't believe in chemical medicine, only herbal remedies. It's certainly a different experience, but that's what I came for!

My courses at the CLA (my university) are pretty good, I'm in class for 5 hours each day which is

This is where I keep my underthings...if that's not too much info. Also my yoga mat! And the few books I was able to bring.
more than I'm used to but we only have a little but of homework, if any, each night. So I'm pretty free to watch movies, journal, read, it's nice.

Things I'm missing at the moment:
Chipotle
Coffee (my host mom only drinks tea and people in Besancon NEVER drink coffee on the go. It's considered very weird, because one must sit and savor coffee. So tumblers and Starbucks don't exist, much to my chagrin).
The parents
Joe
Ice (which also doesn't exist in Europe)

I'm a little sad today, because I was supposed to go skiing in the Alps this weekend, but I caught a nasty cold and decided it wasn't wise. It kinda blows, but I figured I should do the "adult" thing and favor my health. Bah. But I hope there will be other opportunities. Right now I'm trying to plan what to do during my week long break in February. We're going to Paris as a group for 4 days, but then I have 3 days open. I want to stay in France, but I'm having difficulty deciding where to go! So many places...

I've posted pictures of where I live, hope you enjoy

My host mom had fresh flowers in my room when I arrived. And they just happened to be my favorites--lilies!

No joke, this is seriously my key to my host family's house.

Love the new digs! Very homey looking. I miss you very much. It's wierd to think that you are so far away but I know you are having the time of your life. Thinking of you always.

Whoops!
That last comment was from me...I accidentally submitted it without putting my name...hah!

j'aime le key
couldn't remember french for 'the key,' but it made me homesick for travels in Britain, where my host family had a similarly ridiculously-easy-to-copy-looking house key! Loving the blog. I have vowed to not drink Starbucks until you return safely.

Wow, that key is pretty sweet! It looks really old! I like your new room, and I am glad that we can see where you are living!
