Day 1: Thur, Jan 3rd
Departure from Philly Int'l on Air France: 6:55p.m.
Day 2: Fri, Jan 4th
Arrival at de Gaul Int'l: 8:20a.m., depature to Tunis: 9:50 a.m., arrival in Tunis: 12:20 p.m.
Al-Marsa Center, on the Mediterranean outside Tunis, check-in and lunch.
Afternoon: group orientation session "Men's and Women's Spaces in Tunis"
Evening: exploring the coastal town of Sidi Bou Said; coffee/tea at a traditional cafe on top of tyhe Sidi
Bou Said mountain
Day 3: Sat, Jan 5th
Breakfast at Al-Marsa Center
Morning: Guided tour of Tunis. Lunch at dar-Essaraya w/ Q&A "Tunisian Women in the Workplace"

Rest of the day: Avenue Habib Bourghiba, exploring Tunis, dinner downtown.
Day 4: Sun, Jan 6th
Breakfast at Al-Marsa Center.
Soccer game at Al-Manzaa Stadium, lunch back at the center.
Get picked-up by host families! First dinner at home.
Day 5: Mon, Jan 7th
Visits to : the US Military Cemetery
the sanctuary of the tophet
the Punic ports
Lecture: "Turning points in the history of the Carthaginian Empire", historian Mounir Khelifa
Lunch in a local restaurant.
Day 6: Tues, Jan 8th
Classes begin: Arabic or Art History, Al-Marsa Center
Visit: US Embassy. Lecture: "US foreign policies toward North Africa and Tunisia", lunch TBA
Day 7: Wed, Jan 9th
Class: Arabic or Art History
Workshop: Arabic Calligraphy
Night: with host family
Day 8: Thur, Jan 10th
Class: Arabic or Art History
Workshop: Arabic Calligraphy
Night: with host family
Day 9: Fri, Jan 11th

Day 10: Sat, Jan 12th
Overnight Trip: Bizerte: northern coastal town, site of Tunisian-French battle. The Byzantine Kasbah:
6th century citadel. Turkish Forst: 16th century.
Dinner and night in a hotel.
Day 11: Sun, Jan 13th
Trip: Dugga: town on the edge of Tebesouk Mountains, visit most spectacular Roman ruins.
Day 12: Mon, Jan 14th
Visit: the Bardo Museum: former palace of the Husseinite beys, houses the most renowned collection
of Roman Mosaics. Accompanied by a Roman-Civilization expert.
Day 13: Tues, Jan 15th
Class: Arabic or Art History
Lecture: "Islam and Democracy in the Arab World", Professor Hamadi Redissi
Day 14: Wed, Jan 16th
Class: Arabic or Art History
Workshop: Mosaic Art
Day 15: Thur, Jan 17th
Class: Arabic or Art History
Workshop: Mosaic Art
Day 16: Fri, Jan 18th

Trip to the south:
First stop: Kairouen: Tunisia's holiest city, top pilgrimage site in NAfrica, the great mosque, the Aglabid
basins, and the Medina. Also, visit to a carpet shop.
Day 18: Sun, Jan 20th
Sbeitla: Roman ruins
Gafsa: lunch
Red Lizard Train: through the Seldja gorge and canyons, w/stops for hiking
Hotel Tamerza Palace: dinner and stay the night
Day 19: Mon, Jan 21th
4-wheel drive across the Chott-al-Jerid salt lake
Touzeur: visits to both old and new city, Dar Charait museum
Sleep in desert camp sites.
Day 20: Tues, Jan 22nd
Breakfast in camp.
Douz: desert oasis town, bordering Sahara desert. -Optional- long camel trek. Lunch at hotel
Sand Palm. Visit to market center. Dinner with entertainment.
Day 21: Wed, Jan 23rd
Matmata: underground Trogyladite dwellings . Dinner and night at
Trogyladite styled 4-star hotel, Diar Al-Berber.
Day 22: Thur, Jan 24th
Tatawiin: the famous Ksour, the above-ground fortified stone Berber dwelling. Night at the oasis.
Day 23: Fri, Jan 25th
Djerba: island off the south-eastern coast, tour of Hournet Asouk, and Al-Ghariba, where one of the
oldest synagogues of N Africa is located.
Day 24: Sat, Jan 26th
Sfax: lunch en route to Tunis
El-Jem: the famous Roman coliseum
Back home with the family for dinner.
Day 25: Sun, Jan 27th
Free day!!!!!
Day 26: Mon, Jan 28th
Class: Arabic or Art History
Workshop: Mediterranean cuisine
Day 27: Tues, Jan 29th
Class: Arabic or Art History
Visit: Carthage
Day 28: Wed, Jan 30th
Class: Arabic or Art History
Visit: Az-Zaytuna Mosque in old Tunis
Day 29: Thur, Jan 31st
Class: Arabic or Art History
Day 30: Fri, Feb 1st
Cap-Bon: visits to Nabul, Hammamet, and Kelibia. Night at 5-star hotel, dinner TBA.
Day 31: Sat, Feb 2nd
Visit: Kerkouen
Day 32: Sun, Feb 3rd
Free day!!!! Then return home.
Day 33: Mon, Feb 4th
Reading day.
Day 34: Tues, Feb 5th
Exams.
Day 35: Wed, Feb 6th
Shopping in the Medina .
Day 36: Thur, Feb 7th
Free day/ party.
Day 37: Fri, Feb 8th
Departure: back to the U.S.
