Disturbingly, Mark had left it up to me to decide what we would get up to, but as usual I was woefully underprepared and came up with the helpful suggestion that we should go sightseeing. Luckily, Mark suggested we go to the National Air and Space museum (part of the Smithsonian), which bought me some time.

The museum was basically a huge aircraft hangar, and was a superb collection of commercial and military planes from around the world, as well as items from the space program. Some of the itmes on display however seemed a bit out of place - a hang glider just above Concorde for example.

After we'd finished here, we ate in the in-museum McDonald's (!) before heading back to the area Mark and Liz live in to buy food for tonight and rent videos (Munich and the Departed). In between, mark and I tried to explain cockney rhyming slang to Adrial, but to no avail. Americans are so culturally bereft.

Imagine hang gliding in the wake of Concorde...

Some of us don't need to imagine.
