DAY 2 OF THE VOYAGE

Departure from Whitehorse was at noon . The day crisp and clear for our longest flight of 9 ½ hours to Japan. No better way to fly than Icelandic Air . Can’t say enough about their very special service.
Big excitement occurred today as we crossed the International Date Line. It was quite a thrill. Champagne was served , the captain announced a New Year’s eve countdown and pouf…..just like that , we were in another time zone. At precisely 3:00 pm on Tues. Nov. 6th, it was no longer Tuesday and no longer three in the afternoon. It was now Wednesday, Dec 7th at 11:00 am. Le Temps perdu ….so now we have lost a day (actually it was a 20 hour leap), which we slowly will regain as we continue our westward journey.
Of interest during our flight was a refuelling stop in Petropavloski (we hadn’t

heard of it either). This small Russian ( Siberian really ) outpost is an active military base reminiscent of James Bond spy movies.
Spectacular scenery , mountain ranges resembling peaked meringue, (and check out the smoke rising from a semi- active volcano.)

Meanwhile, whenever we land, it’s going to be hard to figure out if we are hungry , or tired …or coming or going !
Next stop....Kyoto

We made it.....Arrival at Kansai International Airport Osaka.
Ultra modern, clean efficient airport, spectacular design by Italian architect Lorenzo Piaza, built on a man-made island . Last photo is a picture of Lindsay at Starbucks . We have been awake for 20 hours now so we need a good java jolt to get us to Kyoto where hopefully we will be back to real time.
We'll update you from Kyoto

Love to you all
Hugs, Lindsay and MaryEllen
