i like them kkk gota keep this brief as i been up to loads since the last silly blog. BUT theres like 2 pages of pix so lookit them instead of my words if you dont care.
weeelll we got stuck in aweful Cusco,Peru due to $$ idiocy,it was bad.we wanted to fly straight to mexico but this is expendy so we thought it would be ok to just get the bus from Cusco (in the very south of Peru) to Cartagena,Columbia (in the very north). this is a LONG WAY TO GO SITTING DOWN.Ecuador also happens to be in the middle of these 2 countries. They are all big.we got 8 or 9 buses in a row, all day and all night every day and every night for 6 days and 5 nights.IT WAS RUBBISH.though very cheap.BUT RUBBISH. The rest of Peru looked bum, Ecuador looked cool, we stopped in Machala for a few hours with this local guy who turned out to be a mental christian and not super fun but he was nice enough.more buses and more days and nights later we got to Cartagena. There are guite a few army checkpoints where they search you and the bus for badness in
The bird
geejo or something.hes an idiot. columbia, maybe a couple in Ecuador too.annoying but we did see some guy get stung with a kilo of weed so i guess its ok,plus FARC never shot us which was nice.
Cartagena is an old port city and super old with lotsa street history and rad colonial buildings and cannons everywhere.the old city looks amazing at night which is nice for you as i have no photos. We didnt have alot to do, nor is there alot to do, until we sailed so we just hung out in local bars every night.
Columbians are mental.
We met our El Capitan in the local yacht club, hes Spanglish and spaks no English. his name is Antonio and he was travelling around the world in his 15 meter (45 feet ish) yacht with another spaniard called Isabella. Antonio and Isabella.i found this most humourous for obscure and personal reasons.
but yeah, he was cool so we set sail after missioning about trying to leave souf america for like ever.felt gude.there was a yanqui couple travelling on board as well but there werent alot of fun so this is their only mention.
We sailed out of Columbia on maybe a saturday and sailed
for a day and a half/2 days roughly until we reached the San Blas islands. Theres over 360 of them.they are inhabited by a tribe of people called the Kuna.
A Short Piece on the Kunas The Kuna people apparently number up to 60,000 including those who farm on the mainland.they live entirely self sufficiently, eating their farmed goods and fish they catch.they get money selling Mulas (needlework) to tourists but they dont actually need the money.its used for beer and the occasional new motor maybe. They have a flag which is actually the spanish flag with a black swastika on it. This is from theyre revolution in the 1920s where they got bored with the white panamanian cops hassling them and killed them all.all the half cast kids got killed again, to preserve the Kuna race.yay. now they are way more chilled out though. they just sit about in the sun, eating fish and swimming all day.might row up to some boat in a dugout canoe and sell needlework or fresh fish. we bought a HUGE crab and a lobster off some guys for $4.they were still alive and not very into being boiled alive but i wanted
lobster.he cost $1 and was SOOOO GOOOOD!
In the Kuna tribe the men fish and the women sew.you need both to get along. If you dont sire a femchild then the last male child born has to become a transvestite and sew mulas forever.they seem to accept it pretty well and the best mula maker in San Blas is a flaming tranny called Lisa.you can tell but shes made a good effort. This would make the Kuna people the only society ive ever heard of which not only accepts gayism but actually promotes it in certain circumstances. Plus its the woman who choses a husband and not the other way round.
FACT.
the people live on one island for a set time, some months or even years, working and living there and after that they swap to a new island.they keep moving from island to island and some islands will have just one family or dozens or more.some will have loadsa coconuts (which are protected by law and a major source of income) or others good fishing and a few are en route inbetween cartagena and Carti, Panama giving them some tourist selling chances.
After a couple days mincing around
An shell
photo KING the San Blas islands we set off for Panama, the dock was called Carti. i say dock but there is none, just an island with loads of people in, the yachts anchor around it then a guy in a big canoe comes and gets you and you put along to the coast, which is lush green forever.then you head into the mangrove swamp bit and go along a real slow river through the magroves until you reach a seemingly random point and stop.all we saw was green and men in dugout canoes.then a big jeep appeared and we drove through the jungle for 3 hours until we reached an actual road.it was all very pretty but super bumpy and uncomfy and tiring.
now we travel through the whole of Central America by bus (again, wicked) to Mexico City for the Day of the Dead!!! cant wait for 3 days and nights on a bus again but im ready for it this time.
peas.
