Our trip to Singapore began with an overnight flight from Perth, landing in Singapore at the inconvienient hour of 3 in the morning. The trains and buses hadnt started yet and taxis are not in are budget so we made ourselves (un)comfortable on the plastic benches and tried to get a few hours sleep before we got the MRT (underground) into the city centre at 6am.

The humidity when we left the airport was incredible, even at that time of the morning! By the time we found a hostel in Little India we were ready to collapse! We found a cool little hostel called the Prince of Wales and caught up on some sleep for most of the afternoon before hitting the town later in the afternoon!

Our first stop was Chinatown, a great little place, the streets lined with markets, shops, restaurants and the famous Food Street, full of little stalls offering hundreds of different types of chinese dishes and snacks most of them not costing more than 2 pounds! We found ourselves coming back here most nights for our dinner as it was lovely food and lovely people, one of my favourite places in Singapore.

One of the other brilliant nightspots that we visited alot was Clarke Quay on the side of the river, although out of our price range was lovely to walk around and was where most of the nice bars and restaurants were with loads going on all night.

For the first couple of days we spent every waking moment exploring the city by foot, bus and underground. The city has got so much to see, so we wandered around taking in all the amazing buildings, parks, markets, musuems and hotels. Of course we had to stop for one of the famous Singapore Slings at Raffles Hotel, it cost the same as our accomadation for the night but it had to be done!

But what Singapore mostly consists of is shopping malls! The main shopping area in Orchards Road, a stretch of road that must be over 2 miles FULL of huge shopping centres with loads of designer shops, high street shops as well as many others i hadnt heard of, where i'm sure you could spend a month and still not cover it all!

This time of the year is wet season so as well as the humidity, about once a days the heat breaks for an hour and there is an almighty thunderstorm so is always good to have a shopping centre nearby to pop into!

As the Indian Deepavali festival is starting soon we also took a guided tour around Little India and learnt all about the customs and traditions, all of it was really interesting. The guide also reccomended an area for the best indian food so we tucked into a feast of pratas, naans, samosas and currys, all gorgeous!

We spent the third day of our time here on Sentosa Island. A completley man-made island built just off the coast of the city. It is a little island of gorgeous white beaches and palm trees with hundreds of oil tankers and industrial ships in the background, a very wierd experience! We spent all day exploring the island, but the highlight were the animal encounters where you could meet different kinds of animals throughout the day. I think adam wanted to run off with the iguana but i loved the snake!

Overall we have both loved our stay here and it is definitely somwhere I would like to come back to, especially for the shopping and food!

Hope you all enjoy the photos, let us know if you want to know anything else about Singapore!
