The next morning (7th October) Ian and Chris met us and said they had decided to go straight to Aqaba to have Ian’s foot looked at. Jeremy and I decided to do the same as Jeremy is not well enough to see Petra. So we left Mish and Milla in Petra and came down. Ian now has his foot in a half plaster and had a wonderful night’s sleep for the first time for ages and is feeling much better. Jeremy slept all afternoon and night and is recovering. So we will spend the next couple of days recovering for the next stage which I think will be even more strenuous.

Jordan is the most beautiful country and, after Syria, very clean and well organised. It is more expensive but according to a German journalist we met at the campsite at Dana, the country has had to take in nearly one million Iraqi refugees in the past few years which is putting an enormous strain on the economy. It is also very short of water. But again the people are delightful and helpful and very friendly.

Hello...
...dear Huntingfords and Harveys. Have just caught up with your adventures in between our less civilized ones getting settled in Monaco! Happy birthday Gail for 2 October; I've made a note, so better timing next year, hopefully. We are just about to raise a glass of chilled pink Cotes de Provence in your honour. We hope all toes and tums are in good health again? Miss you, and Shipton, which you probably do, too, now and again! Much love and safe travels Jeanie xxx
