Lasso
Harriet using a Lasso with skill G'day again all;
I have to be honest; after Fraser Island I seriously thought nothing could beat that, especially as we then spent 2 days relaxing in the awesome town of 1770 ("Seventeen Seventy" on the map), but I was wrong, very wrong.
We left 1770 on Sunday around lunch time and jumped aboard our bus to Krombit. After 3 hours of driving into the back end of nothingville I began to think the driver was lost. That was until I saw a small collection of what looked like outhouses in the distance. I shit you not, this place actually looked like the setting for wolf creek. It was preety damn cool. Imagine the house from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the village in The Hills have eyes and the corpses of cars like in Wolf Creek, now you have a picture of our stop over for the night! Yee Haa!
The Cattle station was amazing. Completely covered in man eating ants; and I am not joking. They were everywhere and they were not small in number. It was crazy. But with some repellant on and my hiking boots, I was good to go. So what did we do at
this cattle station? Well, firstly we went horse riding and rounded up about 150 goats. That was awesome. Then we learnt how to use a lasso properly, this was needed for later. After the Lasso lesson we did some clay pigeon shooting. Oh yes! 4 out of 5 and I was impressed - and this was a proper double barrelled shoot gun. Now it was time for the Goat Rodeo! Hahahaha... this was absolutely hilarious. Luis, Scott and myself in a pen full of goats. Luis had to lasso one round the legs. I had to pick up the squeeling thing when it was done and tie 3 of its legs together so it couldnt run off. Scott had to get the brand and stamp his ass! Oh yes! The goat made a hell of a noise, sorry Tanya; I know being a Veggie its not nice reading this, but trust me, it doesnt hurt them apart from the branding. Anyway, our team won the time trial. Only because Luis is a master at the lasso (he has done something similar at home in Spain with Bulls). Once all of this was done, me and Luis went for a ride
on the back of the station owners pick up truck around the "outback". Everyone else wanted rest and siesta. Anyway, it was one hell of a bumpy and dusty ride. But check out the sunset picture taken with the trees, as you can see, it was well worth it.
The evening was spent round a massive fire talking with the station owner, who is now in his sixties. He told us about the local area, living on a cattle station as he has for his entire life and lots of cool facts about the area. Nice guy. Afterwards Luis, Scott, Becky, Harriet and myself talked him into showing us how to crack a whip properly. This involves making the whip travel through the air at over 330 metres a second. Guess what.... we did it. It was good fun.
We left the following morning around 7am. Only a short stop over, but one I will remember for a long while.
So next was Krombit to Airlie Beach... 11 hours journey. Yup, and now we are officially in the Tropics. This means, once we get outside, its like walking into a Sauna. Oh its hot here! Arrived and
Oh dear
Scott missed the Goat and caught himself a Becky checked in about 8pm finally. No partying as the following day we leave on the SV Whitehaven for our 3 day 2 night trip around the Whitsundays.
Ok, so the Whitsundays. I will say sorry for any swearing now. But this trip was absolutely fucking incredible. Its only been 5 hours since I got off the boat and I want to get back on right now. What did we do? Snorkel. My first time. Wow. The Great Barrier reef starts at the Whitsundays, and again... WOW! I snorkelled (spelling?) with turtles, the most amazingly coloured fish and other sea critters in and around the most beautiful reef and crystal, and I mean crystal clear water. So what about the beaches? You know the Whitsunday Island beach is white, right? Did you know its 97.5% pure silicon, and thats why its so white. Did you know its the purest sand in the world? And the hubble telescope was made of that sand? Well, we spent an entire day on this beach. Did you also know if you polish you silver rings in this sand it looks brand new? (I did mine, and they gleam!) It was incredible. Riding waves, swimming
in crystal clear water, lying on the purest sand in the world, snorkelling, diving in the ocean from the boat and watching the star filled night sky, and I mean star filled; this was my boat trip... well... there was the uhm... well... as my dear old nan would call it; wacky backy. Hahaha. Love ya Nan. But I loved it. Seriously did.
So what now?
Well, I am staying in Airlie beach for 2 nights. There is a job going in my Hostel which I am about to see the manager about. If I get this I will be working for my Food and Accomadation. Reception Duty during the night shift. Its work, so I dont mind. But this gives me time to find another form of work I want. What work hey? Boat work baby! I was talking to our skipper this morning and its really easy apparently to get work aboard private yauchts and sunseekers when they dock here ready to tour the islands. Experience not needed. Just wash up after meals and do the laundry for 2 weeks and you get a private cabin and a free trip with food included. Found someone today
that did this; they loved it. So I am going to look for the same. If after 2 or 3 weeks I dont find anything, I will move on up north to Magnetic Island.
Well guys, as always, love you all. Keep reading.
