Blimey... There's an awful lot to write now;
Surfers Paradise was cool. Loved it there. Lots of Billabong and Quicksilver Warehouse outlets; with plenty of jobs going in those places too. Might have to remember to pop back down there if I cant find anything else. Stayed in a slightly dodgy hostel. Me and Luis ended up in a room with 3 girls from Ireland. Now, you all know how much I love the Irish accent; so yeah, I was a happy bunny. The night we arrived we went out to find somewhere for dinner and ended up in some dodgy local pub that was having a Trivia night. The locals however were friendly enough. Once dinner was done went for a wander around and found a cool little beach side amusement park with some cool roller coasters etc. Went on one called the "Vomatron".. no I didnt vomit. The ride was HUGE and fast, and span lots. It was only able to fit 4 people on at once, so I had convince Kevin, Becky and Tracey to come on the ride also. They eventually did. The others sat at the bottom and just watched.
The next morning I
Group
At the Glass House Mountains View point did a bad thing... I bought some Billabong Board shorts... BUT... they were Limited Edition Foo Fighters Board Shorts! Ok, so it was $90 I could have saved; but these shorts were great. The rest of the day was just spent sleeping on the beach; whilst wearing my new shorts!
Before we arrived in Brisbane that night we went Zorbing. It was great fun. The hill was that long, but it was very steep. There was 3 of us in the Zorb, Luis, Scott and myself. They fill it half way up with warm water and then you get in. Needless to say we couldnt stand up at all. Brilliant fun.
Brisbane. Honestly; a complete hole. Hated the place. I don't think I am a city person, and this place annoyed me. Luckily we arrived at 7pm and checked out and left 11 hours later at 6am.
So Brisbane to Noosa. Noosa was cool. Spent 4 nights there just chilling out. Did some Kayaking and Surfing (free hire from our hostel). Drank plenty of goon every night (Goon is the cheap wine over here... roughly 5 litres for $10... so thats 5 litres from 4 pound... its
Indian Head
Becky, Harriet and Luis rough!!). Caught up on my washing. Started reading a new book called "Soul Mountain". Written by the first ever Chinese writer to win the Nobel Peace Prize for Literature. It has been translated into English, so its slightly hard to follow in places. But really very good. Noosa was good, not much more to say on it really. Good weather, good times.
Then from Noosa we went to "Gods Waiting Room" otherwise known as Hervey Bay. Its known as the first because its full of old people who move there ready to die. Seriously, its really freaky. Once 7pm hits, the town dies. No one is around. Really scary. But Hervey Bay is where we picked up our 4x4 Seld Drive Jeep; our camping equipment; did our food shopping and made the crossing to the beautiful Fraser Island. I dont know what to say about Fraser Island. Because words, and even pictures dont do the place justice. Its more beautiful than you can imagine. Crystal Clear blue lakes with white sandy shores in the middle of a rainforest on a sand island.... see what I mean? Literally sleeping under the stars watching the full moon whilst listening to the
waves crashing 10 metres from your feet. Listening to and watching the dingoes try and get into our campsite to steal our food... ok, that bit was'nt so pleasant. But, wow... the island is amazing. Doing a self drive tour was the best option by far. We have such a great group, and we all get along so well, it made it that more perfect. Driving along the beach during sunset... wind whistling through the open windows as the music is playing... I want to go back there.
Anyway, got back to the mainland yesterday and spent one final night in Hervey Bay before leaving this morning for 1770. The town is lovely. The Hostel is what a hostel should be like. Did you know 1770 is the next landing Captain Cook made after landing at what is now Sydney? That makes 1770 the second place to be landed on in Aus. But the town is impossible to get too. Its in the middle of god knows where. We had to wait 2 hours in the bush for some random mini bus to come pick us up. And trust me, although its still spring, its bloody hot in the
Maheno Wreck
Wrecked in 1935 on Fraser Island bush here in Queensland.
So what next?
2 Nights here in 1770 to regain strength from Fraser Island. Then we move onto Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays Boat cruise for 3 days and 2 nights. I cant wait. After that I will most probably say goodbye to this group as I will need to find some work. It will be sad. I have made some amazing friends. Becky from Southampton, Harriet from Kent, Luis from Spain, Scott from Zimb, Monique and Julia from Sweden. They are brilliant. But, they all leave from NZ soon anyway, and then home. I am the only one planning to stay a year.
As always, love to all.
