Have just landed in Lima, Peru, after a fantastic couple of weeks in California. We stayed in LA the first week as Euan and Kate were both working. During that time we went to Hollywood, Santa Monica and Venice Beach, Downtown LA and Long Beach (for which we got the Metro through Compton etc - home to all LA riots. Didn´t read about all of this until next day, but suddenly seemed to make sense why the guy stood next to us had his blood group tattoed on his face - eek!). We also had a good day walking (and swimming in pools) in the San Gabriel mountains at the back of Pasadena. Bizarre that such a huge, beautiful wilderness exists so close to the City. We also saw a snake, but not a rattler so that´s alright....
The second week Euan and Kate were off, so we headed north up the Pacific Highway (pretty spectacular in its own rite). We had a night camping under the redwoods at Big Sur, a night in San Francisco (good City - hilly, lots of water, and Scott was more than happy because of all of the bridges...), a night in Napa valley (good wine!) and then a couple of days in Yosemite. Yosemite is an incredible place - the sheer scale of it is quite mind boggling. We walked to the top of some pretty spectacular falls, with views over El Capitan and the Half Dome. We also saw a bear (from the car, which seemed like a good place to see it from) but somehow Scott managed to miss it in the photograph so I don´t have evidence that they are not fictional creatures (Neil!).
For all those who know Euan and Kate, they are doing really well (as is Sabrina!). Their house is coming on - can get a sense of how nice it is going to be when finished. Good place to sit with a beer in the hot tub!

Great to hear you are having a fab start to your travels
Olla guys, It is great to hear that you had a fab 2 weeks with Kate, Euan and Sabrina. I have enjoyed reading about your adventures so far especially the fact that you have seen a BEAR, I'm very jealous!!! Can't wait till the next installment to hear more (and see some pics) about your time in Peru... hope the spanish lessons are paying off. Take care of yourselves and have loads of fun! I know you will. x x x
