This I promise will be a very short blog! Getting to know England further.....and this time it was Bath. A beautiful city with so much history and is also a World Heritage City .

Baths history commences in approximately 1 AD when the Romans thought it would be a great place to set up an outpost to their empire- a little bit far from Rome but nonetheless they left their imprint on the city. Bath was a fortified city which contained a spectacular Bath 'complex' dedicated to the 'gods' who were the only ones who could produce hot springs!! They are the only hot springs in England! The complex was later built over and ruined for many hundreds of years after the romans left (approx 60AD).

Bath's second high-profile era was the eighteenth century, when the town was a hugely popular resort for royalty, aristocracy, gamblers and rakes. In between 'taking the waters' of the Baths, and attending colourful assemblies, Bath's Georgian tourists indulged in all manner of intrigues, and the kind of superficial lifestyle described by one-time resident Jane Austen.

In the eighteenth century Bath was re-designed as an outdoor showplace for Georgian society. Almost the entire town centre is a coherent and attractive in the honey-coloured limestone terraces. Among the more interesting architecture of this era are the curved 'The Circus', and Pulteney Bridge, where you can pause to shop while crossing the river Avon.
