Spain - my dream come true!

Yeah! I am finally in Spain!! I arrived into Madrid last night and met my brother, Craig, at the airport. He is traveling with me for the first two weeks of my trip. We managed to make it to our hostel ok and then took a stroll to see the Palacio Real (Royal Palace) and the Cathedral next door at night. They were stunning at night.

Today we got up and went straight to the café to eat churros con chocolate. I have been waiting 8 years to eat them. They were just as good as I remember the last time I had them in Spain. Afterwards, we headed off to the Reina Sofia museum. This is the museum that holds Picass’s famous Guernica painting as well as the works of several other very famous painters - Joan Miro, Salvador Dali, Kadinsky, etc.

You will never guess what happened at the museum - we ran into my friends Rick and Pat from San Francisco. They are on vacation in Madrid for the week. What a coincidence! We made plans to meet them later that night.

We were totally exhausted after the museum. We headed off to the Chueca neighborhood to eat at a pizzeria that Let’s Go recommended. It was s good and only cost $4.50 fr a personal pizza. What a deal! After eating we attempted to find the school were I will be teaching, but I forgot to bring the exact street address so we had no luck.

We then headed back to the hostel. Craig took a siesta and I ventured off to get a pre-paid cell phone. I bought one at Vodaphone and managed to conduct the entire transaction in Spanish including instructions on how to use the phone and my pre-paid card. I was really excited that my Spanish was coming back to me.

Later that night we met Pat and Rick out for drinks and dinner. Everyone eats late here so we met them at 10:00 pm. We went to a tapas restaurant that had stuffed bulls hanging on the walls. It was a bit freaky and a bit funny at the same time.
