My home-away-from-home for the first night!!
Hey all! So Amanda and I finally met up yesterday and spent all day today driving over 400 miles to Dawson Creek. We both started this little roadtrip of ours back to Alaska at different times. I said goodbye to my stepdad and mother on August 21st and set off around 10am for Osoyoos Lake State Park in Oroville, WA. After 288 miles of driving the first day, I got to Oroville and found that the only open (and only easily accessible) restaurant was a small place called Hometown Pizza and Pasta. It turned out to be a small italian place with red walls and random Mickey Mouse paintings. The food was alright, but I bet the pizza would've been better. But after eating dinner, I headed over to the state park to get to my campsite. #28 was next to a big tree with a nice metal picnic table. So I got my new tent all pitched (with the help of some elderly people) and relaxed while playing on my Dell for the night. I wrote a little in my journal by flashlight as the starry sky shined down above me. It was a nice night's sleep but went by so fast.

The next morning (Aug 22nd), I got up around 7:30am and packed everything up. After a couple phone calls, I headed out of the "ghetto looking" Oroville and went to the Canadian border. I had no trouble in passing the Canadian border and made my way through Fruit stand country towards Williams Lake where Amanda was. She had taken off from Vancouver, WA and would meet me there. I got into WL around 3:30pm and the mad-pair were reunited. We had some laughs at the ghetto hotel and trying to find free wireless internet in hotel parking lots before crashing in the bed around 10pm.

We started this morning (August 23rd) off by getting up around 7:30am and leaving the hotel around 8:20am. After a very interesting and very "speedy" day through the Canadian wilderness, we came back to our hotel room at the Traveller's Inn and relaxed for a bit. The drive here was just amazing. We passed a gorgeous mountain range called the Hart Ranges that went on for over an hour. It was amazing!! It was the most beautiful part of British Columbia that I have seen so far. And we raced a Subaru...weaved in and out of a line of cars...and entertained each other in our seperate cars (her in the Taurus, me in the Focus) by talking on the two-way radios and making random observations about the scenery. After about a half an hour of some much needed R&R, we headed out to eat some dinner, EH, and get some "beverages". After a 30 minute pursuit, we finally tracked down what we were looking for...SMIRNOFF!! So then we came back here and played some cribbage and drank out beverages while listening to UGLY Betty on the TV and trying to talk like a Canadian. It is now 10:10pm in Dawson Creek, BC and I am off to get some sleep. Tomorrow we drive over 400 more miles to Muncho Lake...then Aug 25th is Whitehorse...and then finally, August 26th is Skagway where we board the ferry and head back to Juneau! I CAN'T WAIT!!!
