Poppies II Firing!!!
...yes surfing in your sandals does give you better traction. So far Bali has been the highlight of our trip and both of us definitely want to go back, however it was time to press on. Arriving in Bangkok was like stepping into a parallel universe. Everything from the skyscrapers to the freeways looked western, but it was like our brains were malfunctioning and there were just scribbles where the words should be. The air was freakishly humid! We got a taxi and told the driver to take us to Khao San Road. He didn't understand anything except for Khao San, but we made it.
Khao San Road is a travellers hub packed with bars, make shift drink stands, merchants, and tattoo parlors. Walking down this street you can get anything from pad thai to ping pong shows. For the more adventurous travellers you can buy fried locusts or cooked maggots...um no thanks we'll pass. The next few days we sat down with some artists drawing up designs for our tattoos. After finding the artist we wanted and making sure everything was sterile, it was go time. If anyone tells you that a tattoo on their inner arm doesn't hurt, they are full of s#@!
After getting tatted, we
Surprise Surprise!!
A candid shot of me in my natural habitat... dropped our passports off so they could start working on our visas for Vietnam. While those were processing we went to check out a few of the sights around Bangkok. To do that we used the local bus which was interesting...First of all I have to say that the buses rarely pull over to the bus stop nor do they ever fully stop. You have to run out into the street and jump onto the moving bus. After becoming professional traffic dodgers we cruised around to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. (Temple of the 90 foot Reclining Buddha) We are planning on going to sling some baht at a muay-thai fight tommorrow night and drink some Sang Som buckets (Thai whiskey and cokes in plastic pales) out of a pink VW bus that has been converted into a minibar.
We are leaving Bangkok in a couple of days and heading into Cambodia to check out the temples of Angkor Wat and the Killing Fields in Phnom Penh. After that we cross over into South Vietnam and go from Ho Chi Minh city up to the north ending up in Hanoi. Than it's back to Bangkok to meet up
