Dawn Writes:

Sorry for not keeping up with our blog, by the time we get back to our hotel at night, we’re so tired, we open up the computer, look at how much work is actually involved and decide to procrastinate a little longer.

This was a pretty busy day full of sightseeing and just being an annoying tourist in general. We took the train to the London Eye where we spent a great deal of money to stand in line for 45 minutes only to be tossed into an enclosed space with twenty-two other people and all their kids! Once we got moving though the view was amazing. It’s right over the River Thames and you can see all of Great Britain! OK not really, but it was pretty incredible. We got off the London Eye and were quickly overtaken by a squad of Storm Troopers!... on display for a Star Wars exhibition which we did not go to. I’m a Star Wars nerd myself but not really something you must see when in London! We walked along the River Thames for a while watching some street performers; went by the Tate Modern Gallery but not actually in (too late); and went to the Shakespeare Globe Theatre but didn’t actually see a play (sold out!).

Back on the train to go see Big Ben and Westminster Abbey - side note on the trains here. It boggles my mind that such a huge city can have a train system that runs so smoothly and efficiently. It’s really easy to find your way around, the trains come so frequently that they’re not really very packed and it’s been pretty clean where we’ve been. Damn Calgary transit! Anyway, as soon as we got out of the subway station, there was Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey all life-sized and towering. I’m blown away by the architecture and the history of everything here. Growing up in Calgary, you just don’t see that kind of detail or history. It’s really interesting too, to see the combination of the modern architecture with the old… those Brits sure know what they’re doing.

Anyway, after that we went for a long walk through some beautiful parks to Buckingham Palace, had tea and crumpets with the Queen, asked her about her pin cushions and were off for dinner, drinks and back to our hotel. We’re having a good time, really enjoying London and for the most part each other; although, one of us may not make it back alive… there’s still a long way to go.

Have you guys run into Mr. Bean yet? If you do, tell him that Christian Irwin from Canada loves all the work he has done. Okay?! Promise?!
