Im sure someone once mentioned that Bono's house is somewhere in this photo. DAY 1
The holiday started by Bert dropping us off at Teesside airport. Got there well in time and chilled out in the airport, so much so that Leanne nearly cause us to miss the flight by going shopping for sweets !!! Thomas loved the plane and was very well behaved, he did find the pilots voice quite amusing and couldn’t stop laughing. He spent most of the journey just looking out of the window.
When we arrived we quickly jumped onto the shuttle bus and Thomas fell asleep instantly. Bernadette very kindly picked us up to take us to Michelle and Derrick’s. Thomas gave Bernadette a picture to say thanks. When we arrived at the house we could not believe how nice the house/area was - top marks to you guys your home is beautiful, not many people have Ferraris parked next to them and a pool ;-).
As we were a little tired we just chilled out on the first day and Michelle made an amazing Lasagne which we later found out Bernadette had dropped off the day before. When Derrick got home we went down to the beach, Michelle took great pleasure in telling us were Bono's house
Ready to go
Thomas all ready for the off was, where he drinks, his greengrocer, where he went to school, where he once parked his car - you get the picture ;-). We had a quick walk on the beach and took in the scenery. We all went home and chilled out with wine and cider.
DAY 2
Up early and Michelle and Derrick got the now famous Thomas wake up call, Derrick showed Thomas some of them squash skills that have won him all them tournaments. We had breakfast then headed off for the Dart(train) station and caught a dart to Dublin centre, we quickly jumped in a cab and headed for Dublin Zoo. As always before we started looking at the animals we had more important things to sort out - i.e. FOOD. Steak, pizza and salad were on the menu in the Meerkat restaurant. After lunch we headed off to see the animals.
Thomas was dying with laughter at the ducks diving underwater. Paul and Michelle amused themselves by making cow noises in the farm section at random tourists. Leanne loved the gorillas, and Thomas met a real life King Kong who constantly picked his nose. One of the highlights of the day was seeing the
baby Elephant, Mase and Thomas sat for ages waiting to see them in the viewing auditorium and when the finally arrived Thomas let our a massive YEAY in excitement, cue the rest of the crowd to join in, Thomas found this rather amusing.
The tigers were also impressive, the male was the biggest tiger Mase had ever seen and made short work of its dinner. The zoo is better than I had imagined, the sheer size of the place and how well kept the animals were was really impressive. We left the zoo and walked back into Dublin which took ages, it was brutal as Derrick would say.
By the time we got to the centre we were all shattered and Thomas was flat out in his pushchair so we decided to pop into the world famous Temple Bar for a pint of Guinness. We sat and just chilled watching the world go by in the bar, live traditional Irish music was being played and we had some craic as they say. Leanne then got fascinated with a street performer who was pretending to be a statue dressed as a knight. Thomas woke up and they went off to see
First flight for Thomas
1p flights form Ryan Air - nice the performer, Thomas was a bit apprehensive at first but was soon best mates with the guy. We finished off our drinks and Derrick kindly picked us up.
Back at hotel Bono Michelle cooked a pretty good damn amazing halomi curry. After watching Transformers we all went to kip shattered.
DAY 3
Michelle kindly let Mase and Leanne have a little lie and we had breakfast before making plans for the day. We decided to go in the outdoor pool as the weather was absolutely scorching. Problem was the pool was totally freezing. We all jumped in, although Leanne did go first.Even Thomas had a quick dip with uncle Derrick. We all chilled near the pool before eating our lunch sarnies accompanied by chips and sausages. We all had some chill out time before driving to nearby Bray. Leanne’s eyes lit up when she seen all the rides. Thomas went on the bouncy castle and watched Billy Bobs wild west sing-along. The big kids went on the Waltzes while Mase and Thomas went on The Caterpillar rollercoaster, Horse racing ride and tea cups. Thomas also went on The Ghost House ride with his mam and auntie, he wasn’t scared
Wiped out
Tired head but he didn’t like the ride much, preferring the caterpillar. We headed back along the seafront and set off home. We watched a class DVD when we got home (erm okay, cyanide pills at the ready) and went to kip. Can I just mention Michelle set a record for cumber of outfit changes within one day.
DAY 4
It rained heavily on this day, and we attempted to go view the seal in the harbour, we did spot 3 of the swimming about but had to retreat to the car because of the driving rain. We headed off to Derricks family home and we were welcomed into Bernadette and Brendan's home. Thomas played with the toy cars while we enjoyed a huge salad feast. After saying our goodbyes we left to drive to a traditional Irish pub called Johnnie Foxes, we enjoyed a few pints of the black stuff and listened to some Irish folk having a sing song. We headed off home and had a Chinese meal, just a note of caution if you ever ask for a discount on a takeaway meal-don’t, Leanne paid 3.50 for 6 plain pancakes with NO duck lol.
DAY 5
We said our goodbyes and Derrick drive us to the airport, we jumped on the plane and before we knew it we were back in Hartlepool.
It was a great holiday and we would just like to thank Michelle and Derrick again for inviting us to stay in their lovely home, we hope we can return the favour soon. THANKS
