I guess it had to happen sooner or later...we have been blessed with such beautiful weather on this trip, that on our last morning in NY, we woke up to miserable conditions. It was cold, wet and grey outside - Top of the Rock - I think NOT! What a shame...Iz and I were both really looking forward to farewelling NY from the Rock - a much better place to see the city I'm told (not only is it cheaper than the Empire State Building, you get views of the Empire State to boot).

We made the best of our morning, by staying in bed till after 9am, then getting ready for our flight to London. This involved packing all our gear, and checking out of the hotel at 12. We wanted to stay in the room longer, but they wouldn't let us - though they did hold our luggage. So it was out into the rain for us...and we were not well prepared.

Our measley umbrella (thanks for telling me to take one KB) barely covered my tiny head, let alone Izzy's, but we made the best of a bad situation, and after a stop at one of

The famed Saint.
the thousands of deli's in NY, we walked through part of the Rockefeller Centre (it has 7 buildings in all) and found ourselves standing outside of St Patrick's Cathedral. I just had to go in - afterall one of my Grandad's is called Patrick.

The church was amazing...there was a service on at the time, but we were still allowed to stroll the corridors and take in the views - more fantastic stained glass windows, and lots of statues and shrines. I'm not a religious person, but there's always such a lovely calm that washes over you in these places. The church did have an Irish feel, with images of the famed Saint who wiped out all the snakes from Ireland, and lovely Shamrock inspired pews (at least I thought they looked like Shamrocks).

On the way back to our hotel, we walked past the area that houses the ice-skating rink in Winter at the Rockefeller Centre, and the flags that fly there representing the countries of the world...Australia was tucked away at the back. We didn't have to wait long for our shuttle to the airport once we got back to the hotel, and it was off to La Guardia for us.

Our first flight took us to Dulles (pronounced Dall - as, in Washington) and we had, thankfully, been put on an earlier flight. If we hadn't, we would not have made the connection to London!! Thank you United Airlines!! The flight to Heathrow was excellent...we were given exit row seats, with tonnes of leg room, and had a lovely hostess. The flight is only 7 hours, so after the meal, we popped some sleeping tablets, and were out like babies. Next thing we knew, we were awake, having a small breakie, and landing in a sunny London! No rain...fantastic!
