We have arrived in Singapore!

Oregon gave us a very fitting send off, 60 degrees and raining which was a surprise after the perfect summer weather we had been having. Our flight between Portland and LA was as normal as it could be thought it was delayed a bit by the lightning and hail. I do love Oregon :-) The topper for that leg of our journey was the 8-year-old who was belching on the backs of our heads while we waited for the plane to arrive.

LAX wasn't too bad. Our walk to the international terminal was quite nice due to the ocean breeze that was blowing in. After checking in for our 9:20pm flight we had dinner and waited for the plane to arrive. When we got on we were very surprisedat how nice it was. If you are ever going to fly to Singapore or other areas around here, fly Singapore Air!!! The seats were cushy, a decent amount of leg room, and the best part is that every seat has it's own video monitor with a remote and access to on demand movies, tv, music and games. There were easily 200+ choices of things you could do, watch and listen to. Very cool!!! It definitely helped the 16 hours go by much faster. So that was my little plug for Sing Air. The food was good and I got about 6 hours of sleep, not too shabby. We arrived at the airport at 4:45am local time, that's 1:45pm for west coast, and learned that two of our four bags had not made it on the plane. Not sure how that happened since we had a 4 hour layover in LAX. AND the two bags just had to be all of my clothes and our shoes/misc stuff. The airport told us that the bags would be arriving on another flight later this morning so I am very hopeful that I will have clothes by this afternoon. We left to find a taxi and were very happy to see David, Phil's dad, waiting for us. Thank goodness!!! After dealing with the luggage I was't looking forward to getting a taxi and finding our way to their apartment. Oh, and it was 80 degrees out, no sunrise yet! It's definitely humid here which makes it such a beautiful place. The majority of the 4 million people who live in Singapore live in high-rise apartment buildings. It looks like New York City growing out of a jungle, but much cleaner. We will post pictures when we receive our shipment of computer supplies (no USB cord).

Anyway, thank you to all our family and friends who are so supportive of us and are just as excited about this adventure as we are. We'll post more when we get to Penang on Saturday.
