Trip from Lima to HuarazTrip from Lima to HuarazTrip from Lima to Huaraz

A nine-hour coach journey - ouch
The altitude is really getting to me now! Getting a headache every day is no fun at all! The Pastouri glacier is at 5000 metres and I really struggled getting up and down there. I would have got more pictures but I could barely focus on where I was going I was so dizzy! Still, not everyone has set foot on a glacier.

The previous day´s walk up above Huaraz was great, if also hot and difficult. As you can see, Huaraz is right in the middle of a basin between mountains and hills. The city itself is pretty shabby, much like Lima, and its difficult to find a good meal here! Had a nice (if of dubious origin) burger for 1 Sol, about 20 Pence, from a street vender. Not been ill with anything major yet thankfully although much of the group have!

I have also visited the Lllanganuco Lakes set between the mountains. The two lakes are famous for their colour, which when I visited was not as turqouise as in the pictures. The air was pretty fresh here and the temperature a not unpleasant cool. Went for a short walk outside of the bus from one

lake to the next which was a kind of preperation for the Pastouri glacier visit. Terrible bus journey by the way, the road this far out is pretty much a dirt track full off switchbacks heading up the mountain, so it was extremely bumpy.

Had a third and final walk into the mountains the final day we were in Huaraz, about 2 hours extremely bumpy ride away from the hostel. Some of the guys went climbing but me and Oliver decided to go on a small, but steep hike into the surrounding rockies. I was extremely glad Oliver felt tired enough to walk at my pace - being from Switzerland he races up mountains!

It is hot here in the sun, but cold at night. The hostel here is also pretty good, run by an Englishman called Joe - there is hot water (a luxury) and a hand wash laundry.

yay i talked to ya earlier!
I have a slight confused query: quote "...which was really hard going in the altitude depite it being pretty easy going." ...*ehem*... I sure hope you're as confused about that as I am!! *lol* but I think I understand what you're getting at. As you said earlier, you're pics here are pretty fab! And some of them looked v. New Z.-ish! I especially liked the glacier pic (= Oh well, talk to ya soon Lari x-x-x™
