I have arrived in Ketchikan, Alaska to another fabulous sunny day. This has been one of the best cities in Alaska so far for wildlife viewing. First off I tendered in to port to look around the city before going on my excursion by boat to see Misty Fjords. I boarded a high speed boat to travel to Misty Fjords. On the way to the Fjords I was able to see Orca Whales, Humpback Whales, Sea Lions, and I got my best picture of a Juvenile Bald Eagle. Bald Eagles heads do not turn white till they are at least 3 or 4 years old. The Misty Fjords were beautiful which are steep valleys carved out by massive glaciers. The water below us in the valley was between 1500 and 1800 feet deep. After the boat ride I explored Ketchikan some more and walked over to Creek Street. Creek Street is houses and boardwalk built on stilts. On Creek Street contains the original Dolly's House which use to be a brothel when that was legal long ago. Ketchikan is also known for its stairs. There is no natural flat ground in Ketchikan so all houses are built on the sides of hills. Some houses in Ketchikan can have over 200 stairs to get to the front door. The flat land that exists in Ketchikan is man made. This is the last city in Alaska I will visit on the cruise. The next time you hear from me I will dock for the last time in Vancouver, B.C.

That island is Eddystone Rock. It was made from lava, from what I understand. Glad you enjoyed your Alaska trip - and especially Ketchikan!
