Day FiveDay FiveDay Five

It's a twister!
Day 5 - On our way back through the Badlands, into Wall Drug, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, and our camping destination, Beulah, WY.

I apologize for not posting these past few days. We have not had internet access (or sufficient internet access). I’m not sure if our other campsites have internet, but as soon as they do and it’s quick enough, I’ll post some pictures.

Benj has translated the 5BB song to German. We’re hoping that Mike’s roommate will give us the Spanish version. All I can get is “Cinco grande…”

Badlands drive was really awesome. It didn’t even seem like 29 miles. We saw some awesome scenery. Benji ‘shot’ 300 lbs of food, but was only able to carry his camera back.

Wall Drug was cooler than Mandie originally thought. There were all kinds of souvenir stuff, plenty of picture opportunities, and even a very out of tune Wurlitzer type jukebox. Even when our kids were learning House of the Rising Sun for marching band, they never sounded that bad!!!

A mighty strong storm blew in while we were in Wall Drug and we heard the weather warning about quarter-size hail and severe thunderstorms. Luckily we didn’t have to drive through it much.

Firehouse Brewing Company in downtown Rapid City. Benj spotted the sign a mile away.

We believe we have supernatural powers. When we arrived at Mount Rushmore, the fog was so thick that you couldn’t see anything. Upon entering, we deiced to take a look first and then perhaps head back to the truck. As we approached the end of the walkway, the fog suddenly lifted and the faces came into full view. No sooner did we finish snapping pictures did the fog move back in. We bought our souvenir shot glass and headed for the camper for lunch. As Mandie was making sandwiches, Mike looked up and said, “You can tell you’re at Mount Rushmore.” If you looked directly behind our camper, you could see the faces clear as day.

Crazy Horse was awesome. Mike has decided if he did music theory out here, they could call him Crazy Chord. After touring the museum and walking though the fashion show…(yes, I said fashion show), we donated $$$ for pieces of blasted rock. Once back to the truck, Benji pulled out his spotting scope and we took
Awful, awful machine!Awful, awful machine!Awful, awful machine!

This thing was so out of tune, we all had to walk away before it finished our song.
a closer look at the sculpture…well, at least Mandie and Benji did. Mike focused in on the camper parked next to us. We love you Mike!

Deadwood was a pleasant surprise. They were having their summer festival with music and open container laws lifted after 4PM. Mike and Mandie got their picture taken with a character in costume in one of the bars. Mandie got beads at MardiGras, where she lost $1, but she won it back in another casino. A great big $5.00 bill! Whoo hoo!
Once again, we’re at a campsite where we don’t have internet access. I’m sorry readers! I promise to update as soon as I can!

Woah. This town is cool. They closed down the gas station to have their fire department’s pig roast. Beer glasses were flying and they were getting ready to par-tay! I want to go back to the party, but I think we’re going to call it an early evening. Long day tomorrow.

Our campsite is water and electric only. We have out houses and a separate shower trailer.

So, we only got two states in today. South Dakota and Wyoming.

Tornado watch is out for our area. Beulah, WY. One county west has a warning. We’re sleeping with one eye open tonight.

Hey, it's me again. I love your blog! I can imagine all the Mike-isms you all are experiencing. It's great reading about all these places that I've been. I even bought a pair of sunglasses at Wall Drug. Can't wait to read more!
