Freezing in Franz JosefFreezing in Franz JosefFreezing in Franz Josef

After a sloppy hike in the Kiwi rainforest, here we are at Sentinel Rock overlooking Franz Josef Glacier.
Well, since our last entry a lot has happened. We arrived in Franz just in time to hit a rain storm...surprise. We hiked 3 and half hours through the rain forest to see the Franz Josef Glacier. This trail was more like the Pendleton Mud Run than a nature hike. As you can see in the picture we basically took a 4 hour shower. After a few days we went down to Fox Glacier where we decided to hike only 12k's round trip to Fox Glacier (you don't have to but we were cheap asses and decided that hiking and hitchhiking was better than a heated shuttle for some reason). Both of these towns were tiny and had about 200 residents. The night life equated to drinking a few beers and playing a trivia game in the bar (of which all questions would have been appropriate about 10-15 years ago). Russ and I have been cracking up at the music on the radio and we sucked at trivia because we couldn't remember who won an academy award for best screenplay in 1992...

We are in Christchurch right now and are happy to be in a city that has more

The road signs seem to be very obnoxious here.
than two streets, literally. We have booked skydiving tomorrow since the weather seems to be good enough....It didn't take long for us to start hyperventilating. Earlier today we went to "The Gateway to Antarctica." It was an interesting museum that is also the center for a majority of the world's expeditions to the continent. They even put us in a giant meat locker designed to simulate a "light" summer storm, which still dropped to -20 degrees Celsius. Well that's it for now and assuming that our chutes open correctly tomorrow we will update you in a few days from Auckland. Until then, 2007th Pekrul Airbourne Division OUT!!!

Ok, so you guys got me to chuckle with the whole "night life" explanation there in the beginning. Souns like a blast though! I definitely wanna see what negative 20 feels like now that you brought it up...and I know you guys were going for the Military style exit, but all I could imagine was Ryan Secrest. Bassett out.
