Hi everyone,
Sorry family I have been unable to send individual messages as can´t find my around this gmail. Nevermind, an update to you all.
Roncesvalles where we commenced the walk was an amazing place. Lots of alpine type homes and accommodation up there. In the winter they get a lot of snow. The alberque we stayed at was amazing. There was a little statue of Mary and a candle burning when we arrived and they played lovely relaxing music. The Mass in the evening was very special with the priest having an amazing singing voice. He blessed all the pilgrims and sent us on our way. As with all the churches we have seen here it was amazing.
We had a lot of rain over night but the morning dawned cool and clear and we set off on our first day with mist in the hills and walked through woods and farmland the sound of church bells ringing (it was Sunday) and the ringing of cow bells. Lots of animals including wild horses, sheep and lambs and cows and calves. There was a road sign to look out for deer (a bit like the kangaroo signs) but as with the kangaroos we saw no deer.
We arrived at our final destination (Lorenss????) wet, cold and tired as we had had rain for the last hour. The alberque was not a patch on the previous one we had stayed at but was warm and dry even though the showers in the temporary site shed (communal) left a bit to be desired.
We left in the rain this morning and had rain on and off but mainly on. We spent a little time in Pamplona but had had a look around there on our way up from Barcelona (caught train up). Finally arrived at a lovely alberque in Cinzer M (sorry don´t know spelling) but Janet it is the one you stayed at and it is lovely. There was sunshine when we arrived.
Running out of time so must dash.
Lots of love to you all,
Catherine Anne
