Mom forcing a smile
finally after 16 months of planning I'm finally in Europe. Despite a little mishap at predeparture when I was wrongly told that I would be on standby sending my Mom bonkers getting here has gone quite smoothly. But that's probably because I let Laura do all the navigating. Our first day we were mighty jetlagged so we just explored in and around our hostel then went to bed early. Of course due to jetlagged sleeping wasn't so easy allowing myself to have to "priviledge" to witness one of the other backpackers doing a not so suttle thing....yuckk!!!!!!!!!...The next day we explored Londons main attractions. We saw the changing of the guards, tower bridge, Kensington palace, Big Ben and the London eye.

Next stop Edinburgh, Scotland

Hi Lisa,
Nice blog and glad to hear you arrived safely. Hope you liked London. I should have told Mark to keep an eye out for you. He's been really busy working at the hospital though. That bridge in your photo is Tower Bridge and it's lovely (you can actually visit inside the tower). I see you took photos of the The Tower of London too. The Yeoman Warders (Beefeaters) and the Raven's are cool there. I wonder if you saw the Crown Jewels or took the Beefeater tour that tells all about the history of The Tower? Looks like you got to take in some good sites. I've never been ON London Eye due to the expense and you can get good views of London for free from a few other places like St. Paul's Cathedral. Oh, another name for that street performer is a 'busker'. I think that's what most British people call them at least. They are different from street/train beggars because they are performing a skill to earn donations. I got a video up on Myspace of a really cool busker singing Bob Dylan songs. Actually, Bob Dylan started his career as a busker, so I've been told. Hope you're having fun. I dont' know what you think... but, I think Scotland is loads better than England... better Fish N Chips too! But, hopefully you got to go out for a curry in London. Oh, if you are hungry and see a restaurant called Nando's GO FOR IT! It's so good.. Portugese peri-peri spicy chicken and spicy rice or chips with peri-peri spice. Best of all, they have bottomless foutain drinks... I'm sure you noticed one downfall of the UK is NO FREE REFILLS! I think they have Nando's in Ireland too. Mark is the one who got me to try it becaus they were really popular in South Africa where he grew up. I hope Nando's will open in the US someday! Stay safe and have fun! Tammy

oh, I almost forgot...
London Bridge was the next bridge up the Thames. It's really boring, normal looking bridge though. The only thing cool about it is it's history.
