Remembering a trout fishing sign on the upper slopes of the Poas volcano we headed out for a Grayson fishing trip. We hesitated briefly after surveying the road but headed down what ended up being a horrible road even for Costa Rica. After about 1.5 miles of descending down a steep, deeply rutted driveway we reached a beautiful finca. The owners seemed shocked when they saw gringos in a rental car. We think they were shocked we made it down the road. The farm had an incredible view and it was the perfect temperature. The couple that ran the place spoke zero English, but we managed to get directions to the fishing areas. They pointed to the backdoor so we just roamed their land and found the trout pond. Grayson caught a few trout…the fish were so small we just released them back into the pond. After fishing we went back to their house/lodge/restaurant. They did not seem to want any money so we ordered drinks out of guilt. We had three beers, 1 chocolate milk and fished for a couple of hours. The grand total = $4.55. We couldn’t figure out how they made enough money to live. Grayson

knows how to ask for the bill so it’s a ritual for him to say “La cuenta por favor”. The lady smiled so big and was so happy Grayson was able to speak a little Spanish. We left the beautiful farm and then stopped at a restaurant for lunch. The food was absolutely delicious!
