Huascaran
The first day I´ve seen the Huascaran, the tallest mountain in Peru. Previuosly it has been covered by cloud. Ok so the internet has been very intermittent recetely. As someone asked me recentely "Do they have computers in Peru?" Well yes they do (I´m not doing this by mind power alone) but they aren´t very good. So me and Laura are staying together with one spanish family, the madre is called Panchita and giggles all the time and I´ve forgotten our padres name. Panchite is a very, very good cook. I missed home cooked meals SO much. Not as good as my mums (nothing beats moms cooking) but it is so tasty. Unfortunately she always gives us these gaint mountaisn fo food which I can´t eat. And then she looks hurts and asks me if I don´t like it.
The first night I was there she took us out for a meal of chicken and chips, unfortch I got food poinsoning afterwards as I have said before. Laura and Panchita were fine, but I was puking all night and had stomach cramps. Plus all the noise it was horrible. And the next day I coulfn´t eat anything despite madre making us a huge meal. I felt really bad. Oh well. That afternoon we had out first Spanish lesson with
Huascaran
More of the mountain Rueben (where Jess and Tom are staying) The house is really big, they have 4 dogs (alsations, they scared the shit out of me when we went into the garden ands they all ran up with ears folded back and tails not wagging) but they are nice dogs if a drooly. He is funny, he calls us all midgets but all he does is speak in spnaish to us and points at thigns telling us the words. And then he tells us to make sentences. Ok i have a background in spanish but for the other 3 it is thier first time leanring it, how are they supposed to make sentences???
The next night was better, except now I can hear guinea pigs. Which I know are kept for food. It makes me sad because I know what they are saying. Well what thier squeaks mean. they started off making the "yay! food!" squeaks but a little bit later they made the "omfg" terrified squeaks which was sad. I miss my guineas.
The next day we had our first lesson with Jaime who is really funny, he is very camp and looks just like steve buscemi (mr pink). He is
Tristan
Bruni and Alex´s son, Tristan. I was asking him to smmile and he was saying nooooooooooo. a really good teacher and don´t expect us tpo be like fluent in 2 days. Which Rueben does. the next day wasn´t very interesting, but the day after was a big cab strike. There were marches all around town and riot policer and armoured cars. Me and Lauara wanted a photo of the crowd (her idea not mine) and she got a photo first and some man said to us "GRINGOS GO HOME" so I didn´t get a photo. We decided to dissapears as global advnetures told us strikes/protests/angry mobs are thigns you stay FAR away from.
So yeah we managed to catch a taxi to Ruebens and again were just spoken to in spnaish. The next day the strike/protest was still going on but it turned into a march with ltos of shouting. We got photos from up in the classroom where Jaime teahces us but we were warned not to get too close to the windows because they throw rocks and things. We avoided the mob and staying insde which was fine. I bought a packet to c-c-c-c-coaaaiiinnee tea. Whcih tasted like spinach and didn´t do anythign really. And later that dfay Bruni called to chekc up on
Cocaine Tea
It tastes like spinach. us, we told her how unreasonable Ruben was being (he asked us to do 50 sentences using Estar and Ser - both verbs meaning to be) and she said she´s talk to him. unfortch she got Rueben and Jaime mixed up so never got to speak to him. Jaime was outraged that eh gave us so much work and told us that he would help is as it was unreasonable for us to know all this spaish after 5 lessons. Bless him. Although this lesson we now have to write 80 sentences. EIGHTY. My vocabulary just isn´t that big!! Oh well we will survive.
I´ve got a bit of a cold at the moment so at Rubens house the daughter and the mother picked some fresh eucalyptus leaves and bioled them up. Then I put a towel over my head and breathed the fumes. It was a lovelty natural remedy, I was very touched.
Rubens daughter is going to take all of usout tonight which is nice of her, although she doesn´t speak any English lol.
Today Jaime took us out to the market which was an experience. They sell slaughtered guinea pigs, like disemboweled and plucked and also they
sell live ones in mesh bags. It was horrible to see. They also sell PUPPIES and KITTENS in bags. Thatw as really horrible. But it is thier culture, they just don´t regard animals the same way I do.
And yeah thats it really, I´m going to try and get some good walking boots, wish me luck.
