Friday
Got up earlier today. Noticed Nick had pitched his tent next to mine again during the night. Spoke to the guys i meet over the week and said my goodbyes. Left at 7.15am. Today was the shortest day of walking this week, but also one of the hardest.
Had a bit of trouble getting out of Kinlochleven and when i did escape it was again a steep climb. Stopped a few times, and I knew it was going to be a hard days walking. Walked past half the sheep in Scotland. They all ran away anytime I went near. There was a few houses that were abandonded as well. Finally got to the forrest path leading into Glen Nevis about 11am. Thier was a lot of tree felling going on.
The path was again rocky and i was delighted when i reached Glen Nevis. However i found out i still had a mile and a half to go and it was on the pavement next to the main road. Forced on and almost ran when i seen the finishing sign.
When i reached it two guys walked up to me and asked me to fill in a questionare
silence of the lambs Day Five
Everywhere i looked that morning i saw sheep. It an Aberdoinian's dream about the WHW. Sat down on a bench and filled it in and talked away to them. Was told that i was the first person to finish today.
They gave me directions to the town centre and the train station. The train back to Glasgow was at 5.40pm so i had over three hours to wait. Dumped my backpack in a locker and went window shopping down the high street. Got the train and was home by 10pm.
The WHW was well worth the time and effort to complete. You get to see many different types of landscpaes in Scotland and everyday is different. You can do it over 5 to 8 days depending on where you plan to stay, how far you want to walk, type of accomodation and time you have available to complete it.
There are a few companies that take your luggage every day and drop it off for you. Dont know to much details about it as i humped my stuff with me. This allowed me greater freedom, but it is hard going sometimes.
I would do it again, but at a more lesuirely pace and drag a few friends along for the
still 10miles to go Day Five
A abandoned house. The sheep must have drove the farmer away company. Everyone I met was friendly and the company can help you maintain a good pace of make you forget about how much weight is on your back or how your legs hust or feet have blisters etc. If you do it yourself like I did you will meet people along the way.
