OD
Did a nice 10 miles today. It got cold last night and for the second day we
had snow flakes drifting down during breakfast. Was in the high 20s last night.
Most of the day it never went much above 40 deg but without the wind of
yesterday it made walking very comfortable. Only saw one north bound section
hiker about 11:30 and had a couple of weekend hikers stop here for a short chat
on their way north. We are about 1/2 mile north of the Shenandoah National Park
at about 2500ft. The last couple said the temp tonight might drop into the
teens. That is just below what our stuff is rated for, so it will be wear
everything you have to bed tonight. Then hope for the best. We have been chilly
early in the morning the past two days and the next two sound the same.
The shelter tonight is on the side of a very high mountain. The last 3 miles
were all up hill, over an 1100ft gain. There is still almost 2500ft more to go
before we get to the top. CC and I split up about 200ft below the shelter, she
came here and I contoured around the mountain to "Ginger Springs" to fill up all
our water containers. Then it was huff and puff up to the shelter with 16 extra
pounds. Had a nice mac and cheese dinner with some of our own dehydrated ham
chunks. We will check in at the SNP station in the AM and start through the park.
Hopefully there won't be much snow.
CC
I'm surviving the cold with only one blister on my big toe. I hope it doesn't
get as cold as they say.

Thinking of you all the way.
Pat/Deb, Just keep on hiking and passing on the comments., it's just great to follow you on your trek. We are looking forward to getting to the island where the big walk is 150 ft. to the sleeping cabin and the most serious problem is a power outage. (But I have a small generator). Ewart and Sal
