So the SCALA crew had a debriefing (sharing session) after our first placements this past few days in Bohol (province of). We arrived in Tagbilaran after taking an overnight ferry from Iloilo City (Andrea and I, that is), and then we headed of for the short trip to Panglao Island and Alona Beach. Awesome place! We could sit and have our meetings with the beach in the background and the sea breeze on our faces. It was great! And we got alot accomplished as well. I think it was the best set of meetings we've had so far. I learned alot on my placement in Iloilo and it was nice to have the chance to be able to share my experiences with the other SCALA volunteers and learn from theirs as well. It was also really worthwhile to have the two Filipino volunteers there as well, since they could offer some unique insights into the SCALA program and how they think it should be implemented in the future. So it was a very successful few days!

But of course we had to take one day and do a bit of touring, as Bohol is well known for the Chocolate Hills, the tarsiers (little monkeys that aren't really monkeys at all),and the Bocol (I think that's the name) River. The pics speak for themselves. How cool! 😊

Now everyone has headed off to their next placements. Ginny and I are in Manila at the moment since our LGUs (local government units) aren't quite ready for us. So Ginny heads off on Monday, and I might not be heading off at all. The placement in northern Samar fell through, but there's still another center planned in Leyte (near Tacloban) that I might zip off to on Monday. If they're not ready (welcome to the PHilippines!), then I might just stay in Manila and help Sarah out with stuff at the national office. There's lots of work to be done, so if my next placement doesn't work out, I will be more than happy to help here out here in the capital! We'll see what happens. It's good to be flexible around here! 😊
