Pebble Beach
Me looking geeky at golfs Mecca We were headed to Monterey after San Francisco, but it was not going to be an easy journey. Of course, our train was early, and we had to get to Oakland station. To get to Oakland from our hostel, we had to get up at 6am and walk 4 blocks to catch the BART to central Oakland. You would think this would be enough, but no -- we then had to find a bus and catch that to the Amtrak station. Our train was meant to leave at 8.40am from the Amtrak station, and we arrived at 8.10am just incase, as this was a train we did not want to miss. But as you guessed there had to be a problem (as I am Veira, and when the Veira's travel something has to go wrong at every location!). They told us that our train was 2 hours delayed --- not fun, and we were both angry, but what can you do.
The guy at the station was helpfull though and directed us to a dinner just down the road for breakfast. This did not dissapoint us, and we both had our biggest breakfast of the trip yet, all for

Lovely course a very small amount! We got back to the station, and in the end our train was 3 hours late instead of 2! At least it arrived, and after a 5 hour train journey we arrived in Salinas station. From here we were going to get to Monterey which was apparently just down the road. We saw that there was an Amtrak transit bus that could take us to Monterey, and found out that we needed to get a ticket from the station master. We went and found him, but found out that he was the most RUDE man in the world...that is being nice towards him. He got cross at both of us, but we eventually got the tickets of him and caught the minibus to Monterey.
We then found the road that our Motel was on, and started walking...it was the hottest day that we had experienced at around 26 C which was quite annoying as we had to walk for a long time to try and find where we were staying. Every Motel along the road we were walking had swimming pools, which was just tourture to us, and we were both sweating dreadfully. We came

Me playing a birdie on the 4th to our Motel, and our room was nice and big (with two queen beds - common!) but the people running it didnt seem to have a clue about anything, oh well we are used to that by now.
Now most people would not have heard of Monterey and would say - "Why go there, what is there to do?".....but most people would hopefully have heard of 'Pebble Beach' Golf Course, probably the most famous course in the US of A. We wanted to see if we could see the course, and maybe play some crazy golf or something. We looked through all the guide books and saw that there was a small course actually at the Pebble Beach resort!!! We called up quickly, and found out that we could just make the last tee time. So after calling around 3 taxi companys we booked a taxi to take us there. The guy at the course was great and told us that we could now tell people that we have officially played Pebble Beach! The course was called the 'Peter Hay' golf course. It was a great course, and beautifully manicured for a smaller course. I have never played on
greens that good, even at Bramley golf course.
We both played well, seeing as we hadnt played for so long, and I just beat Andy, but we both enjoyed it as the evening was great and the sunset was right over the course - you could see the coastline from where we were. After the game we had to hand our clubs back into the main clubhouse, so we walked down the road to the main course and saw what Pebble beach is really about! It was so grand and posh...but we both loved it. We stood on the 1st tee of the main Links course and knew we had to play it one day (once we had found $600!). We caught a taxi back to the centre of Monterey and had a very weird Japenese meal...it was not bad though...just weird! They battered allllll our veggies --- how weird is battered carrotts and mushrooms ei!
We were only in Monterey a short time, but had a great experience...We both now want to play LOTS of golf on this trip as we found our we actually arnt that bad! San Luis Obispo is next!
