Medussa
Me with Medussa the python wrapping herself around me On Wednesday we went to Kakadu national park (which is the same size as Wales 19,000 square Kms),we got picked up at 7am by our tour guide Louise she is also a zoologist which was cool because she was able to tell us loads about animals which obviously i enjoyed. An aboriginal guy called johnny came with us to he does tours as well and he told us lots of ancient stories and explained the aboriginal way of life to us which was interesting.
We went in a 4 wheel drive which holds 10 people there were the 2 tour guides, us 4 and 1 guy from Us, 1 guy from Germany, 1 guy from Manchester, and a girl from somewhere in Eastern Europe. We went on a jumping crocodile cruise on the Adelaide River, they hold meat over the edge of the boat (on a rod of course not from their hand!) and then hold it up and the crocodiles jump about 3 metres out of the water - some of them their whole body comes out of the water to grab the meat. It is pretty scary because they can be right next to the boat underwater
Wallaby
A Wallaby we spotted and you wont be able to see them then suddenly their eyes appear and they use their tail to propel them out of the water to launch at the meat. There was a big one that was 6 metres long he is the boss of the river and they call him Hannibal because he fights all the other crocodiles and rips their limbs off and things.
Also at the crocodile place before we got on the boat we got to hold snakes, there was a big one and a baby one, I held the big one called Medussa. it was a bit worrying when the python started putting his tail in my pocket and the circle your body and when they do that their muscles tighten as it they are going to start crushing you didnt like it when it did that round my neck. But it was good the top of them is smooth and the bottom was a bit scaly.
We went on to a place called Nourlangie Rock which has aboriginal art painted on it and johnny was telling us stories about what they meant and things it was funny because his stories were
Hannibal The Crocodile
This is Hannibal a huge crocodile who is the boss of Adelaide river at over 5meters long. He tends to rip limbs off other crocs so animated and he got so excited telling them he was great bless him. Then we went up to this lookout which was a 500 metre steep walk and when you get to the top the guide pointed out where part of crocodile dundee was filmed - the scene where he starts shaving with a knife. There was a billabong below as well which they used to film but they didnt get too close because it was actually completely infested with crocodiles.
We went back to our "accommodation" hehe. It was like a metal shed with about 12 bunk beds in it hadnt been cleaned in months! There were spiders webs everywhere and spiders in all of them i didnt get much sleep! It poured down all evening and night there was a storm. We went to an undercover BBQ and had kangaroo for dinner - it was quite nice actually its red meat but bits of it were tough and they didnt do it as well done as i would have liked. We also had vegetables and sausages made from buffalo.
For the 2nd day we found a waterfall to go for a swim but during all
Aboriginal Art
Some of the Aboriginal art we saw painted on the rocks the driving the tour guides had told us so many stories about crocodile attacks and water snakes that us girls decided to stay out of the water (james went in though). We saw a golden orb spider too but it was high up in the trees so i wasnt too bothered.
After some lunch we went to a didgeridoo hut (cant spell) where katie held a blue tongued lizard and we stroked a baby crocodile (while someone was holding its head away from us). We also got taught how to play a didgeridoo - i couldnt do it to save my life!
Next we went down to this lake and fed Burramundi fish - they are huge!!! we had to lean over the edge and dangle the head of these little dead fish over the edge then they came up and grabbed it so fast they made a really loud noise and no matter how many times we did it - still jumped and scared the hell out of us.
Also we saw a couple of dingoes and wallaby's on the way.
And that was the end of 2 day tour to Kakadu! Really enjoyed it
The Lookout
Near Nourlangie rock there was a lookout we climbed up and you could see really far even though there was no sleep and although it rained a lot i still caught the sun a bit.
