Smog or overcast?
Well the trip was begun for real now , and it has been a very interesting start. The farewell at the airport went well, and very quickly I was on the plane.

Fate throws up interesting things now and again, but the person who was seated next to me was the perfect person at the perfect time. It was a guy from NZ, Connor. Basically he is where I want to be in 2 years. He has done my exact trip through the Middle East, including Alexandria, is also an Open Water Diver, has lived in London for 1 1/2 years, and was on his way to Melbourne for his brother's wedding. So I got heaps of tips about different places and just a general good vibe about the Middle East region.

The flights themselves can really be summed up in one sentence. Lots of movies, lots of episodes of Friends, and a bit of sleep. Fyi Stew, Emirates had a whole channel dedicated to Topgear. They also had a channel dedicated to 'Classic FA Premier League Matches' which I got through a few of. None were Leeds games, which was a bit wierd. They would feature in most

It really is in the middle of the desert......
of mine. No comments Ben.

Anyway, my 'seatmate' on the way to Dubai from Melbourne was a guy from Manchester, so enough said about that one. Dubai airport was another eye-opener. A few thousand people waiting around and about 20-30 of them were Caucasian, but there still manged to be an Irish pub there so respect.

The final flight to Alexandria was me and 200 Arabs, so again a barrel of laughs. My seatmate this time was a trainee priest who sang/spoke hymns the whole flight in an order to memorise them. He still didn't drown out the screaming baby in front of me though. After 4 hours of that, I understand why they ban knives on planes.

In a random sidenote, on the flights from Auckland-Melbourne and Melbourne-Dubai, they had plastic forks with meals, but on the one to Alexandria, they had metal ones. I wonder what their reasoning is there?

metal vs. plastic
I had that tooo!! My reasoning behind that was that they didnt think arabs would try a suicide mission in their own region....ha!~
