Our budding traveller
Our budding traveller Well, here we are in Thailand! After 2 days we are finally rested and relaxed!
The flight was fantastic (made up for the fact that the plane was delayed 2 1/2 hours). Only about 1/3 full, it left plenty of room to stretch out & sleep (Gav & Mia that is) All in all it was one of the best flights we have ever had. Mia travelled brilliantly & was especially good whilst waiting at the airport during the delay - we even had strangers commenting on how patient and well behaved she was!
Arrived at the airport around 9.15pm Bangkok time (1.15am Melb time) and took the quick, easy way out of grabbing a cab for 500 baht (probably overpriced, but at this time in the morning we did not care!)
We checked into a the Rambuttri Village Inn but were forced to take a triple room at 1100 baht ($45) from the surly staff, as Mia was 'too tall' and the boss would not be happy if she stayed as a child (??)
Good room, 3 single beds pushed together, but still, we decided to change to the trusty "D & D's". next day as our usual double
Mia plane
How you go to sleep on the plane... room was only 750 bt including buffet breakfast - pretty unbeatable! After checking in, Mia (who had managed only just to stay awake in the taxi) decided she wasn't tired (like, yeah sure!) so we went out to Soi Rambuttiri to grab her a banana pancake and us a beer. Stocked up on fly spray and water and finally hit the sack at 12.30 am (4.30 am Melbourne time) Mia woke us at around 7 am, leaving me very tired (only 15 minutes light sleep on the plane) but after a shower I felt ok enough to journey out for brekky.
We checked out a few other rooms (inc the one recommended by Leon) which we liked, but we really wanted a pool so D & D's it was (where we have stayed before) After brekky at Wild Orchid (Leon's one) we went and had a swim at 'Rambuttri' before checking out and moving bags to D & Ds awaiting our 1pm check-in. After we had some lunch we checked in and all had a nanna nap before going for another swim which was great! Mia met two young Israeli girls (9 1/2 and 12) who took a shine
to her and poured all their attention on her - needless to say she had a ball!
About 5pm, we went for a walk to catch the boat down the Chao Phraya river. Mia loved the whole trip, which was very surprising as she normally hates boats.
We decided to stay in Bangkok another day as we were all very happy and relaxed and didn't feel quite like moving on yet. Went off to the zoo the next morning which was a great place to just wander around. Much cheaper and actually better than the Melbourne Zoo as you could get quite close to the animals and we nearly had the whole place to ourselves. It was also opposite Chitlada Palce which is where the King lives and Mia thought that was great!
Back to D & Ds for another swim then headed back to the river for another boat trip - a great cheap way of keeping a 4 year old entertained for an hour!
Up this morning to head off to Kanchanaburi. The timing was perfect as we grabbed a meter taxi which dropped us off at the bus station just in time to
Street cleaners
If only I could get them to come and do my floors!! catch the bus. 2 hours later and we were there - Mia entertained all the way by watching her DVD player - she just can't get enough of "The Sound of Music"!
We are staying at the Pong-Phen guesthouse - a lovely place on the river with great staff that love playing with Mia!
Anyway, we are all well, Mia is having a ball and has even starting to get used to all the animals around. We now just need to get her eating properly as she has been living on toast and fruit.
Cheers to all and we'll catch you shortly,
Love Shell, Gav & Mia
