From the 21st floor of the hotel looking down - cool elevators!
Tom speaking: My turn to have a blog... I've been letting Bry get on with it as I've been busy sorting photos and stuff. So we arrived on the train from Singapore after an 8am border crossing from Malaysia - very inefficient as they pile everyone off the train, do immigration, scan bags, get everyone back on the train. I would have thought the Singaporeans of all people would have something cleaner sorted out. Maybe I'm just whingeing 'cos I wanted to stay in bed longer!
So we had booked into a pretty good hotel in Singapore with really cool central Atrium which was well impressive. As it was Saturday night we headed over to Clarke Quay, which is not dissimilar from the waterfront area in Bristol (bars, restaurants, etc.) but with less pikeys and generally more beautiful people. Prices are noticeably more than Malaysia, preparing us for Oz I suppose! Had a Singapore Sling - didn't like it much as it's got cherry brandy which isn't my favourite. Managed to spill olive oil on Bry's day-old dress, but fortunately the hotel dry-cleaning service saved my skin!
So we only had one proper day here so we went off to Orchard

Obviously not that fashionable as they let us backpackers in
Road (main shopping strip) for a mooch. Bry only got one top; we were pretty much done on the shopping after KL. Grabbed an afternoon drink in Raffles, of course (wanted the full afternoon tea experience but it was all booked up in advance!). Did the Chinatown street food bit in the evening which was pretty cool - got stuffed for only a few quid. The main road in Chinatown was closed to traffic and they had all the floats out; it was I think the final day of Chinese New Year which is a pretty big deal in these parts.
