After regretably leaving Phi Phi and realising id actualy left a day too soon ( I have no idea what days are what anymore) I headed back to Phuket to see emma and matt again for the last time for a while. We had some beers and went up to a new viewpoint theyd found which was sweet but driving up and down hills with 3 on a bike is not so sweet for your groin.Due to my feeble brain getting the days wrong at least I had an extra day my frieds before saying goodbye and an unplanned stop in Kuala lumpur. I feel like ive cheated a little I didnt want to be flying anywhere but the bus journey from bangkok into cambodia is a nightmare, the thai airlines actually pay The cambodians NOT to fix the road so people will fly!!! But I ended up getting a flight from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur then KL to Siem Reap for less than 50 quid (cant find the pound symbol). And didnt go with Thai airlines. So there.
I got there about 4pm and jumped in a taxi to my Guesthouse, actually a dorm at last!! Its been harder to meet people this last month
Kuala Lumpur
View from the Menora tower despite my good looks because your in single rooms rather than dorms. So when I checked in to find 4 dutch girls and me I was more than pleased.I had a long conversation with the Taxi driver about god knows what, i really didnt have a clue what he was saying for about a 40 mins drive something about americans and cheap computers!?their accents are very indian. He was a nice guy but i got fleeced with the fare but When i get to a town/city I just wanna dump my bag.One thing I noticed driving round was it was a bit of a dump.Hard ,againlike dubai,to get a feel for a place in a few days etc maybe we drove through the crap parts. At night it was alot better.
So with just a few hours in KL i decieded to check out the famous towers, unfotunately the main ones ,Petronas Towes, where closed so I went to the menora tower insead.I think the viewing platform is 274?? metres up but the lift gets you there in about 8 seconds. Its mental.Smooth as you like. And not even my claustophobia took hold as in most elevators.Apparenty better views aswell of the city.Unfortunately the city was pretty
foggy so couldnt see much but still what else was I going to do??
As usual I lost my bearings in a city ,I always think you can just walk round.I got completely lost, trying to keep in linewith the towers but no chance,so I ended up at the other towers, which was handy because I was supposed to go there in the morning and Id later find out my flight was a few hours earlier than i thought.the towers looked great at night anyway and at least I got to see them if not go up them.Cant say im too arsed though.Only a tower isnt it....
So after about an hour of wandering aimlessly looking for home, a random guy asks me where im from, I talked with him a little then asked him where I lived!! He said "come to my car ill drive you".Without a second thought I was going "nice one mate",maybe Im too trusting and itll eventually land me in the shit but the lad seemed sound even if he did "support" the mancs. He said he had 2 hours to kill before meeting a friend anyway.Maybe some peole would have been weary and said no thanks but
I just keep jumping in I think thats the best way to go and KL is a pretty safe place I hear.Kumar was a sound guy who studied in KL He took me round the centre, showed me where was where etc as we tried to find home.He told me about malaysia ,I told him about UK (its shite) etc.He wanted to know about the football and that,so I said one main problem would be he supports the mancs and he had a liverpool air freshener in his car!! But He was just a genuinly nice lad who wanted to chat and help a traveller out.Seems wierd to us because we dont trust anyone.Imagine jumping in some strangers car at home,no chance!! But its different over here.We eventually got to my street where he dropped me off and invited me to come back and stay with his family for a festival they have which I just missed where they go on a pilgramage up to the caves complete with metal plates/kebab skewers through their cheeks etc
cant pass that up can I??

diff aspect to me on KL
I was going from Aus to Uk. Was quite glad of my china town hotel after forgetting what your own room was - for the price of a dorm in Aus. Did think KL was pretty dirty. Menora tower's view was actually better, caus you can only go half way up Petrona's (although Petrona's was free, but felt wierd, they kept saying how our sponsor's the Petrona's were providing a service for you for free. Felt like it was some mafia thing, and I'd owe em for the rest of my life. It wasn't. Was just the paranoia ;) Batu caves were cool. Didn't get to go to the Hindu festival though. Imagine that would be amazing. Beer seemed crazy expensive in the district of bars wherever that was now. Serves me right for staying in a hotel though and not knowing where the cheap bars are from the backpackers eh ;) Keep on keeping on Ian
