Day 2 in Amarillo saw us visiting the local zoo. We were the only people there. It was quite sweet and had some regional exhibits like buffalo and bobcats. Calvin liked the spider monkeys because they reminded him of the Bobos from Go Diego (apologies to those without Nick Jr.). I don't have any pics because I forgot the camera... oops.
After picking up the camera, we headed west out of town to the Cadillac Ranch. A 'crop' of 10 vintage Caddies, half buried in the middle of a cow paddock. It's a community work in progress, judging from the empty spray cans littering the site. I imagine it's more agreeable to walk through a cow paddock in the summer.
That evening, we went back to the Big Texas Ranch for dinner, but this time we called for a free pickup so that Nic could have a drink. It was a stretch limo with massive horns on the bonnet and a 'moo-ing' horn. It was a really cool evening. Fantastic Margaritas, a roaming country music trio who serenaded CJ with 'Home on the Range', and a marathon shooting gallery session before heading back to the hotel in the moo-mobile.
Next morning was an epic drive to Santa Fe. The climate change was dramatic - we were in t-shirts in Amarillo and 200 miles later, we started to see snow on the ground.
We're staying in a motel on the outskirts of town, so we haven't yet explored Santa Fe. We just had dinner in the attached New Mexican restaurant, where Nic had a chilli which he claims is the hottest thing he has ever eaten. When he ordered it, the waitress offered him green chilli, red chilli or hot green chilli. So, being Nic, he went for the latter. He was weeping after the first mouthful, but carried on like a hero. He's had a sniffle the last few days. I don't think he will have another sniffle for at least 6 months.
Speaking of the nasal passages, we experienced the smell of dead skunk the other day. It smelled like ultra-concentrated 'English Country Smell' combined with 'fish processing plant on a hot day'. I could still smell it in my hair half an hour later. Nice.

Was this before or after the chilli, Nic? If you eyes were clear and your nose wasn't running, it probably is before. But then, we can't see the front view!
