LIKE A PICTURE! Seufer6: Destination: Grand Canyon
Wednesday, February 7, 2007
We headed north to the Grand Canyon from Sedona, we drove on highway 89 through Oak Creek Canyon, which is one of the most scenic and beautiful drives in America. It was quite steep with lots of switch backs, this is a road not recommended for an RV over 50 ft. but Ty, the master motorhome driver, made it seem like we were on a smooth sailing ship. We went on into Kachina Village and through the outskirts of Flagstaff. Merged onto road 180 which took us through the San Francisco Peaks, where there is actually skiing. Funny to think of skiing in Arizona, but after building a snowman yesterday, it is true. From highway 180 we ran into road 64 which took us up to a little town called Tusayan, just a few miles from the Grand Canyon. What a beautiful drive it was to get here. We fueled up the motorhome in this small town, then made our way to a rugged campground right in the park. We, quick, got the motorhome set up, put on jeans, long sleeved shirts, jackets, grabbed our gloves and put on our

Once off the shuttle, we went to the potty, then followed the signs which led us on a well groomed hike along the Canyon Rim. WOW! For those of you who have been here, you know what we are talking about. This Canyon is huge, breathtaking, picturesque, gorgeous, amazing and the list goes on. What a wonderful thing God has given us. We walked along the trail for about 2.5 miles, with Lilly in the baby bjourne (yes, hard to believe she still fits), Emma in the stroller and the rest of us on foot. We made many stops taking in the beauty of the canyon and taking lots of photographs. While walking along the trail we saw a bunny and a small deer, neither seemed at all scared or timid of us. We have been told this is the best time of year to visit the canyon because of how clear the view is. At times, it didn't seem real! There were many tourists, it must be crazy during the summer months.
We kept walking until we came to

We entered a real nice restuarant to eat a fancy dinner. The kids were so well behaved and it was a real treat to do some fine dining with all of them.
After dinner, the sun had set, now we had to figure out the shuttle back to our campground. We found what we thought was the right shuttle, only to have a nice girl tell us it would take us the wrong way and take an hour to get to our campground, which couldn't have been but 3 miles away. She told us to follow her to a different stop and we were back to the motorhome in no time. The girl who helped us worked at the canyon and lived in housing in the park. We guessed that most of the workers of the canyon must live there too. What a fun and interesting job that would be.
On our return to the motorhome, we discovered we had no satellite, therefore our TV didn't

What fun we all had laughing it up and really enjoying each others company. All the fun games made Lilly and Emma very active, so I had to lay down with them to get them to sleep and what do you know I fell asleep with them on the hide-a-bed. I don't know how long I dozed off, but I was woken by the laughs of Jessica, Tanner and Ty having so much fun playing cards. It truly is the little things in life which make us happy.

We woke up to a crisp clear morning at the Grand Canyon. Downed a quick breakfast, got dressed and started hiking towards the canyon to a different hiking area. We followed the trail about 2 miles, again oohing and aweing at the magnificient view of the canyon. We browsed through some neat shops along the way. Many native americans sell their handmade art and jewlry throughout the stores and we liked looking at all the different pieces, thinking of Grandma Susan and
knowing what a great appreciation she has for indian art.
Check out time from the campground was 12:00pm (that means 1:00 to us), so back to the motorhome we went, cleaned and loaded up, (Ty and Tanner can have the motorhome from completely set up to on the road in less than 20 minutes) picked up a bucket of chicken, headed south on highway 64, briefly on Interstate 40, then south on higway 89 into the town of Prescott, Arizona, where we found a nice packed RV park. We knew that this would be our last night in the motorhome, so we got things organized and tried to eat the remaining food for supper. Gourmet pasta from Bisbee and salad was served. Tomorrow we will be up and on the road early making our way to spend 8 nights in Scottsdale, Arizona. Good friends Michael and Cameron Sandoval will be joining us for the weekend and we can't wait to see them......
It has been such fun being together as a family in the motorhome the last 8 days. Ty was actually starting to enjoy the whole sewage draining and hook up part of the RV (not one
Robin Williams experience for him) he claims that he knows more about the RV than the owner does. We are so blessed to have been able to all go through an experience like this and have many treasured memories to keep with us forever. We saw so many neat and interesting places along our motorhome journey and can't wait to share them all with you. We miss everyone! Scottsdale here we come.........
