Claire buys me tea and cake so i'll go to starbucks with her. I refuse to enjoy it and give the corporate peddler of crap coffee the satisfaction of having me as a customer. (Claire: ok so im sad wanting a starbucks but the coffee in bolivia was AWFUL and i wanted a decent cup. and ross did enjoy the cake at least.)
Claire:
finally a big city! it had starbucks (mmmm!). we went to the zoo, we looked at a big statue of a virgin on a hill, we marveled at the nice weather and we got really, really, really drunk. the measures of vodka here are more than half the glass. also, we sort of decided we dont want to come home, not yet at least... so we changed our flights and booked new ones to go to buenos aires in argentina.
in theory we will now be home in march. ill let you know how that goes.
next stop argentina!

Ross:
Ok so I’ve not posted for a while and that’s because I’ve really nothing worth saying about Bolivia. It’s a beautiful country with amazing scenery but that’s about all its got going for it (apart from being able to buy dynamite) so I’ll not say much else about it.
That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy our trip through Bolivia, met some great people in our tour group had some good times with them getting drunk and blowing stuff up and I could write a lot about Chile but really can’t be bothered at the moment; so I’ll just

Trying to get Claire to stay still for a photo isn't easy.
give some highlights of our very brief stay in Chile:
San Pedro, absolute heaven after Bolivia and just what you need after you cross the border, warm sunshine, good, tasty food and no altitude. The horse riding here was fun. although I nearly went over the head of my horse when it got spooked coming down a sand dune, the true highlight of the day happened after Geoff, Jo, Johno and I had galloped off, our horses having a bit of a race, leaving Claire and the guide behind. We reined in our horses to wait for them to catch up to be greeted by the sight of Claire clinging on and screaming for dear life as her horse came sprinting round the corner to catch us up.
La Serena what more can be said but beach, shops, alcohol, civilisation. Great.
Santiago: fantastic city that we never really got a good chance to explore. Has a pretty good zoo, looks great with a very European feel and the Barrio Bellavista area has some great restaurants and bars. We had been told that Santiago was very smoggy and worse than Lima for pollution but can’t say I ever noticed it. Had

A big band stand with flying vermin on it. Hate pigeons.
an absolutely great last night with the group, had a tasty meal, got 2X1 drinks with a live band at a bar, the measures are totally lethal here, got ripped and then headed to a club to dance like drunken idiots. Fantastic.
Unless you come here you’ll probably never realise how truly bizarre it is to be in a capital city late Saturday morning and the streets to be completely deserted of both cars and people right in the heart of town. Its down right not natural.

I’d just like to say thanks to my big brother (a bit late but better late than never) for finding out what an Alcatraz is (Pisco and Nazca post) and putting Edinburgh uni’s computing resources to good use. Anyone else interested read on:

Alcatraz (Pelecanus thaghus) Pelican variety of bird. Inhabit steep areas of the central and south coasts, and islands of the country. They live in large groups. Fed with anchovies and other fish species. Valuable for its dung. Very important during pre-Inca Cultures such as the Yunga culture.

Also, not sure if it’s still the case but our blog comes up in the first ten hits in Google

Exterior shot from the main square. They seem to really like churches here can't think why.
when you search for Nazca and Alcatraz. Don’t know if this is down to bad spelling or how popular our blog is.

So by this point you’ve probably heard we’re not coming home (or if you haven’t you have now) so another 6 weeks of blogs from Argentina awaits avid reader. Have fun; we certainly will.

Big angel bloke sticking a spear in a demon thing. Doesn't really convey that whole "turn the other cheek" thing.

Can't remember what this was commemorating, think it had a bit of a nautical theme. Claire liked it anyway.

Amazing albino peacock. Unfortunately it wouldn't display for us and this was the best shot we could get from the raised walkway in the aviary.

Don't have a clue what this bird was but it was huge and looks like nothing i've seen before. Looks like an alien and sounds bloody scary.

Finally got around to catching up with your travels. I have had a viral infection which laid me pretty low, back to health now. As usual sods law I was decorating Craig's bedroom at the time and everything had to take a back seat until now. You seem to be having a whale of a time, I hope your liver can stand it. Mum thinks the photographs are great and it makes us feel we are there with you. Love Mum and Dad PS your sofa is in the dump
