While the kids are at work, the adults will play! Mum and Dad have been having a great time exploring the city while I’ve been sitting in the office. They figured that if they could survive the Tube on New Years Eve, they could do anything, and so they did!!
New Years Day, I met them back in the city in prime position for the New Years Day parade with every tourist and his dog there, so we fit right in! Not anything spectacular, as most of the marching bands and cheerleaders were from America and handing out American flags.. Nothing wrong with that if her were in New York, but we thought it was slightly bizarre for London! It was an experience, and we can all say that we have been there, done that and taken a photo too!!
It was a nice quite night after that, as we all recovered our lost sleep, and I was back in at work the next day.
Mum insisted on following me, with the video recorder, from the front door of the apartment to the office.. Very, very embarrassing! A group paparazzi, very cool, your mum in a purple
Egger tourists!!
Yes.. It is really that cold! fluffy jacket telling you to smile for Nana, very, very un-cool!! (Not that I wouldn’t smile for you any day Nan, but you understand the circumstances!!)
It did mean that Mum and Dad could follow me into work, where I set them up with the internet & freshly brewed coffee, where they became an instant hit with the staff who would keep popping their head around and introducing themselves while trying to avoid as much work as possible on their first day back!
Feeling much better that they were back in touch with the world, they planned all sorts for the coming week, including a trip to Oxford, Birmingham and another special train ride to Paris, while I sat puddling at my desk, very jealously, waiting for the day to go by!
Wednesday was back to a tourist day! First stop, Buckingham Palace to find The Queen.. No such luck, but Mum did find some more men in uniform (a growing fascination that you may have noticed! It’s becoming hard to avoid!!) then it was through Green Park and onto The Tower of London and Tower Bridge. They did attempt some “do it yourself” photography, but didn’t
An Indian Bagpipe Band!??
I know.. Don't ask why.. But they were quite good! quite catch the nic, full marks were still awarded for trying!!
We then met again to head to the Theatre, but not before a pre-theatre drink at the pub across the road! Jay, Vic’s boyfriend, was able to arrange fantastic seats for us as The Producers, which was due to play it’s final night in the West End the following Saturday. It was such a laugh, I kept thinking that Dad was drifting asleep beside me, and then I’d hear a little giggle, then a big giggle and we knew that he was defiantly enjoying the show! So thanks to Jay, they were able to tick, West End Theatre, off their list of “To Do’s”!
No rest for the wicked, they were back out exploring on Thursday, heading out to the London Eye and then by river cruise out to Greenwich, the home of the clock that determines Greenwich Mean Time (funny that!!) while passing lots of important places that Mum has forgotten what they are and why they are important, but I’m sure Google will help her sort that all out!
One place they defiantly did remember was the Greenwich Pub, where they proudly ordered themselves
A real life Fat Controller
For my cousins - big Thomas the Tank Engine fans! Lunch of the Day, including Steak and Ale pie.. A very new experience to Mum, but they enjoyed it all the same!
They then met me in Canary Wharf where we had dinner in one of the bars surrounded by yuppie investors, very well known for their multi-million dollar bonuses they received last year! It was very funny to hear the gentlemen behind us who kept saying that they were heading home after just one drink, three drinks later they still sat behind us, infact I think we left first!! We carried on and met with Vic and James for the much anticipated Bond film that I have been hanging out for Dad to see! He didn’t even blink his eyes, the first night that he has stayed awake successfully!
It was great to show Mum and Dad where I go and what I get up too! That’s one of the best things about this trip, as so much more of what I have told them now falls into place..
Still there are more adventures of the Fossils to follow!
