Day 55 - New Years Eve in Sydney

Today was a long day relaxing day not really doing much at all. We met with Stu about midday and made our way to the Botanical Gardens ready for the New Years Fireworks. When we arrived at the gardens we greated by thousands of people - or more simply, one massive queue! Two hours later we were inside the Botanical Gardens and found ourselves a nice spot to sit and wait until the big moment some nine hours later. The time seemed to fly by, and after some food, beer, and watching the antics of a drunk scottish bloke, there were just 20 minutes to midnight. We packed up our belonging and headed to a better viewpoint. The crowd was getting excited. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... and the show commenced! Loads of fireworks cracked and boomed around us, they flashed, fizzed and sizzled, creating great patterns and tracks across the sky; from the bridge, from skysckrapers, from everywhere. Gradually they got more and more intense and bright with a grand finale some 15 minutes later. Fantastic! The fireworks ended and the mass exodus began! Fortunately, there was no queue to escape - just a nicely paced exit back to the underground. We arrived back at the hotel shortly after 2am. A long day, which with being there, was well worth it.

Sounds Ace!
Guys - Trust you are well. Wish I'd been there sounds like a-hell-of-a display. How were the gardens - You didn't say

Hi Jez! Yeah we are great thanks; really enjoying the Thai food at the moment! Yup it was pretty good but not worth an expensive flight from the uk *just* to see the fireworks. However, there is so much to do in and around Sydney that it would make a great new years break. :o)
