Well after hearing soooooo much about Buenos Aires ( and none of it bad!) we finally arrived there! We got a ferry (where we randonly bumped into some people we knew, it´s a small gringo trail!) across from Uruguay which docked in the port at around midnight, all the skyscrapers were lit up and it looked amazing! We found our hostel, OOHostel in San Telmo and collapsed for the night. I know this seems pathetic for a Sat night in B.A. but I was nursing a serious hangover form the night before and we were assured that all the cool people go out midweek (the traveller´s guru!).

Sunday is THE day to be in San Telmo, so it´s a good job that´s where we were staying! We wandered round the corner and spent a few great hours just wandering aroung the antique and craft market and enjoying the tango, music and entertainers that were everywhere and soaking it all up, a really good intro to the city! After the obligatory steak lunch at DesNivel we headed to Recoletta to the world´s most OTT graveyard! It houses Eva Peron´s grave which is pretty dull next to some of the others, the photos should explain (we promise to get some up soon!). We then went to see Casino Royale! We had been dying to see it for weeks and so leapt at the chance! I hope you guys all enjoyed it, I thought Daniel did a terrific job at the rookie Bond thing and he didn´t look too shabby either 😉

Monday was a strange old day, we spent 2 hours queueing at the Lan (airline) office only to be told to go to the Quantas office (where there was luckily no queue!). We treated ourselves to some retail therapy in the afternoon and to replace a few things that we had thrown out. Laura got a top at C&A, it still exists here! In the evening we finally hit the town! We started at the Millhouse which is a huge hostel where we knew a few people were staying. We then heading to a great bar. It was the first time we had been to a late bar here completely on our own and it was quite amusing, chatted away to loads of people and got lots of free drinks! We cut the night short at about 3am (that´s what time they hit the clubs here) and crashed at our lovely little hostel.

Tuesday we headed to the gorgeous neighbourhood of Palermo. It has several big parks in which we slept off our hangovers and chilled out for the day. The Botanical Gardens is completely full of stray cats. If you dozed off you awoke to at least a dozen pairs of eyes staring at you, very strange but they were very cute and just desperate for a tickle!
Once we felt fully recovered we headed back to the Millhouse once again to meet two Irish guys we had meet earlier in our travels for another night out. We had another fab steak (no red meet in NZ I promise!) and three bottles of tasty argentinian wine later we headed to a bar and eventually a club. It was drum and base music which isn´t usually my cup of tea but we were assured it was the best place in town on a Tuesday and we had a great night in there, bumping into a few more familiar faces, it´s so strange to be in a huge unfamiliar city and see people you know!

After a very long lie in on Wed, we went to the neighbourhood of Boca, home to the Boca Juniors football team. It´s very colourful and cool but a little smally and dodgy! It was the day of the big deciding match at Boca scored while we were there! The few people who weren´t at the match went totally crazy! We got back to the hostel in time to catch the last half and see Boca lose in a very shocling end to the season! We had contemplated getting ticket to see it but it was so expensive and I´m kind of glad we didn´t as they lost. The champions are now Estudiantes.

After the excitement of the match we headed to a tango show with the Irish boys and a lovely British couple. It was great to see a proper show, the dancing and music were so passionate and impressive! We managed a couple of cokes afterwards before we collapsed in our beds, only to be kept awake by some Boca fans who were staying at our hostel adn decided to drown their sorrows right outside our doors so that on Thurs morning there were two very tired girls heading to the airport for Santiago!

The flight to Santiago was only short but turned out to be very eventful! Laura and I were sat across the aisle from each other and both of us between two other people, so we couldn´t chat. I was sat between an argentinian lady and a chilean guy who both seemed lovely and I chatted to them both. When the drinks came with the food (from what I could see) the air stewardess put a drink of orange down a little too sharply and some splashed out onto the lady next to me. She was very angry but we thought that was the end of it. Anway I few minutes later she started an argument with the stewardess saying that the air STEWARD had made it happen on purpose and been laughing at her and she was very annoyed. Myself and the chilean guy sat there not really knowing where to look. Wghen the steward came over he apparently said he would take the drink away so no more would spill which was a bit cocky but she responded by throwing the orange all over him, and the row opposite (including a sleeping Laura!). She then got up and was having a huge row at the back on the plane and everyone was watching. Shortly afterwards we landed and sat witing to get off for ages until three armed policemen came to escort her off the plane! I hope she was ok as I think she had a bit of a complex about the way he, I mean she looked and how men treated her but you just can´t behave like that on a plane!

Wow I´ve written so much, hope I haven´t sent you to sleep!

Only two days to go til New Zealand, I can´t believe it!!
Bye for now x x x
