Day 8 - Stresa to Bormio, Italy

Today we woke up to overcast skies, but still a beautiful view of the lake. I started my morning off with a bit of a glitch. our hair dryer decided to die about a quarter of the way in, so I ended up going down for breakfast with wet hair…attractive. The breakfast here unbelievably was even better than it was in France. There were assorted pastries , eggs, yogurt , fruit, you name it. The coffee was also delicious. After stuffing ourselves, (going to need to diet when we get back), we headed out to our next destination, Bormio, Italy. Once again we encountered tunnel after tunnel. Our views on this leg was mostly concrete. We ventured off the highway for a stop in Como in hopes of spending time viewing the lake. Once again there was no where to park, and the traffic was horrendous , so back to the highway we went. Along the way we did get some glimpses of lake Como which is quite beautiful. Occasionally we encountered some rain, but with all of the tunnels it really didn’t affect our travel. We stopped along the way for a quick lunch and arrived in Bormio around 4:00. There still are some low hanging clouds but it does not take away from the beauty around us. All of the mountains are covered with vineyards so we should have some great local wines.

We found our hotel and unfortunately our rooms were on the third floor (no elevator), so once again we had to dig through our suitcases to take up just what we needed. Around 6:00 we headed down for wine admiring the views. While having our cocktails we met a gentleman from Sweden who soon became part of our evening. He was motorcycling from Sweden to Croatia. At 7:00 or so they called us all down for dinner, or should I say feast. First we were served thinly sliced Italian meats, followed by eggplant, zucchini, and other assorted items. This was followed by salad, then pasta, and finally the main course which was either deer or sausage accompanied by potatoes and veggies. Already ready to burst we were then offered gelato or tiramisu. Holy crap, all of this along with two bottles of wine we should all be in a coma!

I would definitely have to diet after that feast. You only this way once, enjoy!!!
