We had an early breakfast and were able to get away by 8:00am. A good distance today of 63kms, right in our sweet spot.
We left the chaotic drivers of Jagodina behind and on to the same side road we were on yesterday. Again, mostly local traffic, but it does get a bit busier in the small towns we go through.
We had another tail wind today which make the riding all the more easier. We have been making much better time than previously with it's help.
The morning is mostly uninspiring again, not much to see up close but we can see the surrounding hills coming into focus, one of which we need to climb.
By our morning break we have covered 40kms, just 23kms to go and we are at the base of today's climb. It's 7kms long but at the relatively gentle gradient of 3 to 4 percent. The climb was actually very enjoyable. Getting in a rhythm and spinning. As we climb, the surrounding hills offer a much more scenic outlook. We crest the hill easily and the wind is now coming from our left which is a little less convenient as we start the descent. The down hill stretch is a real blast, very little pedalling required as we coast the last 11kms to our accommodation.
Tom picked the accommodation which is actually outside of town but we get the use of a whole house with all of it's facilities so no one is complaining. We have arrived at 11:30am so we need to call our hosts who come right over to let us in.
The host and her son are dropped off and they came baring gifts. She had made a large dish full of Serbian sauagues, put beer and juice in the fridge as well as vegetables from her garden. Not only that but a platter of meat and eggs and bread for breakfast! We're so overcome with her generosity that we add a little extra to the accommodation bill.
After lunch a little work was being done on the bikes when she turned up again with Turkish coffee and chocolate for our afternoon tea. We invited her to sit with us and had fun using Google Translator for our conversation. When we mentioned that we had enough lunch left over for dinner she explained that she was going to be cooking us dinner as well. We had read that when you get into the more rural parts of the country that you can come across the most hospitable of people, but we had not expected anything like this.
Our destination tomorrow is Nis, apparently the point where east meets west. It has a lot to offer in terms of historical significance which we'll have time to explore on our rest day we'll be spending there.
Distance travelled today: 63kms (+10kms to the shops)
Distance travelled so far: 3,619kms
