Saturday 15 July 2023,
Day one on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.
All trails app. 7.6 miles 1200 feet elevation gain. 4.5 hours walking.
Garmin forerunner 25 watch: 7.75 miles, 975 elevation gain, 4 hours and 27 minutes walking.
With a forecast of wet and windy weather but scattered sunshine at the front door we set out for Amroth and the sign starting our walk. We waited for Tenby Taxi which picked up a lady from Denmark who is staying next door and the five of us. It was about a 20 minute ride so we got started about 10 am.
There are clouds but no rain. The view to the south shows the ocean and beaches. After ten minutes of walking Gary is warm so takes off his raincoat saying, "This will certainly start the rain." Sure enough five minutes later we feel the drops. They last about a minute and no more rain the entire day.
The path varies from street to asphalt bike trail but was mostly soil, mud, tree roots and rock. Hopefully photos show the details.
After about 2 hours and 3.4 miles we stop for a drink and pastry and
the bathroom at Saunderfoot bay. Our good weather continues after this half hour break.
The steep ups and steep downs were as described. Coming out of the woods into a field Tenby could be seen about 2 miles ahead.
We continued through town to the old sixth century castle remains and a statue of Prince Albert on the prominent point in town looking down the beach.
After a cleanup and rest we walk downtown to an Italian restaurant and great sea bass and roasted vegetables dinner.
