We spent this morning attending to some mundane household chores, including using the washing machine for the first time since our arrival. Despite the lack of instructions, we were able to do a load of wash, but it took almost 2 hours for the cycle to finish. The apartment has no clothes dryer, so we were forced to use a drying rack that we placed outside on the balcony. Although there was direct sunlight for awhile, by the time we left the apartment around noontime the entire balcony was in the shade; plus the winds were nonexistent. Needless to say, when we returned later in the day, the clothes were still as wet as when we had hung them out to dry!
Today for lunch we tried the Trattoria Chantecler, a restaurant we had passed when walking along Via Santa Maria della Pieta, the ancient street that runs from Piazza Tasso to the cathedral. We decided to take a table inside, as the outdoor ones were completely in the shade, and the temperature was only in the upper 50s. The place seemed to be popular with locals, and the food was fairly good, but overall we rated the experience as
unexceptional.
Dee wanted to spruce-up our apartment in anticipation of the guest we're expecting in a couple days, so she located a flower shop on Via Cesario that was not difficult to find after we finished lunch. She explained to the two nice ladies inside the shop, one of whom spoke some English, that she wanted a simple bouquet. They were very helpful in selecting the flowers and arranging the bouquet, while the price of 8 euros seemed quite reasonable.
After leaving the florist, we meandered a bit through the maze of backstreets before returning to the Corso Italia, and stopped at a gelateria not far from the cathedral. We sat at a small outside table, sharing a cup of gelato (pistachio and stracciatella flavors), and decided that it tasted better than the gelato we've had at several other places around town.
Dee's Comments: Everyday is an adventure here at
Casa Vacanza. Today we ran the washer for the first time...Yippee! But it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to wash a pretty small load. Every day during our travels is a continuous process of
reset, restart and
refocus. We left the apartment today to try
a new place for lunch, then walked to a flower shop for some flowers to make a centerpiece. The flower shop lady made a lovely bouquet for me, then offered to take a picture of us outside the shop.
Then off to a gelato shop so Mitchell could sample yet more of the addictive stuff. This place was more upscale than others we've tried so far, as a waiter served us at an outside table, with real spoons and a glass dish; even I enjoyed the two flavors we shared today! On the way to the apartment, another stop at the grocery store, which is almost a daily ritual here because we cannot "load-up" as we can back home.

Ooohh gelato! I would make that a daily stop. The flowers are beautiful and Mitch you look so pretty with the bouquet! Nothing like your undies hanging on the balcony to dry, hope they are dry by now! 😉 Have a great day today.❤️
