SOUTHEND S.A.SOUTHEND S.A.SOUTHEND S.A.

A gorgeous quite spot to stay and the scenery is spectacular
Finally got away from Ballarat on Friday 24th March, heading down to Hamilton for our last Family visit before heading away, Lyn and Noel were waiting for us and we had a fabulous afternoon and evening with them, great country hospitality! First out to the Golf Club for the members draw and a few drinks and then back to Lyn and Noels for a BBQ dinner, delicious food with lots of laughs and a few wines. Saturday we left Hamilton before lunch and onto our spot for the next couple of days Penola just inside South Australia, a leisurely drive through scenic countryside, Penola is a pretty little town and our camp was out on the Greenrise Recreational Reserve nice little spot within walking distance of the town, a free camp with toilets, BBQ facilities and right next door the Arboretum which has a lovely walking trail around and through it, all mature forest trees mainly planted in 1934 to provide comparison into the growth of various pines and eucalypt species. Lots of sandstone buildings in town and wine tastings etc being right on the edge of the Coonawarra grape growing area of South Australia, had a lovely tasting at Zema

Wonderful catch up with the Jennings
and also Brands, have always loved Zema Wines for many, many years! Monday a short drive to Southend, stopping in Millicent to grab a few supplies as there is no supermarket at Southend. Southend was a great choice, very laid back, small caravan park right on the beach, prob could have stayed a bit more than 2 days, water was bore water so we couldn't use it as didn't want it stuffing up the van water system, John has now ordered a filtration system for bore water to drinking water, so that will be handy along our trip. Great walks around Southend, big walk to Cape Buffon, Jetty Lookout, the Back Beach etc, another big cray and fishing area, John was chatting to a cray buyer down the wharf and prices are still cheap here. Onto Robe Wednesday as my old school friend who lives up on Lake Macquarie NSW had been in Robe for 2 nights and stayed an extra one so we could catch up, what a fabulous catch up it was! Great company, they are travelling with their very good friends Sue and Steve, great nibbles, wines and pizzas at their campsite, we were all staying in

Lyn and I enjoying a couple
the same park which was fantastic, just staggered home, late, 50 metres. I am sure we will catch up again as they are going as far as Broome, taking a 10 day cruise along the Kimberley Coast in September, so we both look forward to seeing them again, great couple are Prue and Guy! Had a great seafood feed in our van, I did oysters....killers..... garlic scallops and a beautiful crayfish..... we were lucky to get a gorgeous cray for $54.00 a very decent size around 800gm.... they were $65 a kilo.... the lovely lady cleaned it all and cut in half for us and packed up nicely with lemon and seafood sauce.... very happy with that! Cannot understand why we have never been to the Limestone Coast area of SA, it is magnificent! Loving it so much! Few days of 10klm walks.... such a lovely walkable town Robe is.... around every corner there is something new and spectacular. Only one supermarket in town a Foodland but it is a great supermarket with everything you need! We are shocked to find out no beer sold in Aldi in SA and the Aldis are few and far between, so have to

Off to Penola
go to bottle shops and pay a fortune, might put a break on how many beers we have! Haha! Caught up with Tom from Bonnie Doon Pub whilst here in Robe, had a few beers and a lovely chat, he lives here when he is not at the pub, him and Gus and a couple of others have just taken over the Mungerannie Pub on the Birdsville Track, so the Birdsville Track might be on the cards next year, will see how the van manages the Oodnadatta Track, see if it shakes the shit out of it!! Had a Sunday arvo at the Robe Town Brewery which was fabulous with great beers and a top band to listen to and whilst walking back to the caravan park a car stopped to see if we wanted a lift, they had been at the brewery too, nice people down this way! Well all good things have to come to an end so heading out of Robe today Wednesday. Stopping off along The Coorong and then onto Murray Bridge.

Suzanne would be jealous of the Crawfish
She still likes to brag that she paid about $175 for a lobster in Melbourne. Maine Lobster is about the same as what you paid! (USD)
