Another knackering Monday morning at the office.

Today we started our 5 day course to earn our SSI Open Water Scuba Dive certification. For those who know us, we have attempted this on a number of occasions now, but for one reason or another we have not managed to properly complete the course! Here in Queensland they are the experts with thousands of people earning their certificates each year on the Great Barrier Reef.

Today was the first day of our 2 days in the classroom and swimming pool, so nothing to report in the way of wildlife, but it was good to know that all of our previous knowledge and experience has stayed with us, and we have come away feeling quite confident about things- although it does help because our tutor is very funny and takes things at a good pace, so we should be all ready for our 3 days on a boat Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

It is also interesting here that we had to have a full Dive Medical before they would even let us near the pool. Diving is the 2nd biggest earner for the local economy behind Sugar Cane, and therefore they take it all really really seriously. We had a nurse and a Doctor examine us proper!

After a tiring brain day, it’s a quiet dinner, some homework and bed, as we are being picked up at 07.00am tomorrow- that really is early for us these days!

Nighty night everyone!
