A phone call late yesterday meant I needed to head back to Melbourne for a few days, so this morning there were a few mixed emotions. Jeff had decided that he was going to press on alone and we'd I'd meet him in Seymour on Friday to continue. The morning was overcast and there had been steady drizzle through the night that persisted into the morning. We headed to the Golden Archers for a coffee and to map out the next few days to be sure when we could meet up again.

It's funny how things work out, yesterday's "wrong'un" with the Yarra Valley Motel turned out to be perfect as we were exactly 1km form Lilydale station which was perfect for me to get home and about 100m from the start of the very water logged Warburton Rail Trail. Jeff and I said our good byes and we went our separate ways. I got a few photos during the day which showed the contrast from a shiny clean bile to the mud splatter mess at the other end. The hour or so it would have taken Jeff to clean the bike was not something I had missed. The trip to Warby is 40km on the trail, which means Jeff's had a couple of easy warm up days before the monster ride of the trip. The first 20kms from Warburton along the Warby Highway to the Upper Yarra Reservoir undulates the whole way and over all has about 300m of climbing. This is followed by 20km of mostly straight up along the Reefton spur a climb of about 800m which gets you to Cumberland Junction. From here it's 60kms on dirt to Woods Point with a steep descent at the end. An epic days ride, especially on your own. I'll check in with our intrepid adventurer tomorrow to bring you all up to date on how he went.

Can't wait til Friday when we can continue together.
