A phone call late yesterday meant I needed to head back to Melbourne for a few days, so this morning there were a few mixed emotions. Jeff had decided that he was going to press on alone and we'd I'd meet him in Seymour on Friday to continue. The morning was overcast and there had been steady drizzle through the night that persisted into the morning. We headed to the Golden Archers for a coffee and to map out the next few days to be sure when we could meet up again. It's funny how things work out, yesterday's "wrong'un" with the Yarra Valley Motel turned out to be perfect as we were exactly 1km form Lilydale station which was perfect for me to get home and about 100m from the start of the very water ... read more

Today Tim and I walked the last leg of the Warburton Trail just to gauge where I'm at in preparation for the walk commencing in France on the 20th of September this year. We walked a bit over 21 kms on good paths with medium inclines at some places. It went pretty well with no issues but there is still quite a bit of work to do. You are better arriving fit rather than expecting that to evolve over the first week or so. It was a great walk to do and Warburton has a broad choice of eateries to grab a bit of lunch at. We opted for pizza after crossing the Yarra (yes it is that long) and walking around the back of the town before rejoining the track. This sort of walk, with ... read more

Warburton Today set off with good intentions but ended in disarray due to reasons beyond our control. Seven of us set off to Flindets Station only to be told that the trains weren't running and had been taken over by buses. We went on the train to Parliament to be told that the buses were not able to take bikes. This meant another 10km ride on the busy road to Camberwell to catch a train to take us to Lilydale. We got there an hour late and after a quick lunch were off at 11.55am. I say we, meaning four of us since we set of with seven but lost three on the way. Don got a puncture on Bridge Rd and the three decided to give it a miss due to the lost time and ... read more

Today we went for a 2 hours drive up to North East Victoria, the little town of Warburton. It's a beautiful little town, and a beautiful little drive as well, but after all the rain we've had the rivers were absolutely flooded! They were pumping water out of the biggest pub in town, the Yarra river was flooded up over the bridge and paddocks were no longer paddocks. I saw it and could only imagine what the people in QLD felt like after Yasi! We walked up and down the street, with Max who in the end looked like a drowned rat, and looked through quaint little shops, one of which allowed dogs inside! We ate at one of the worlds BEST bakerys, The Warburton Bakery, and then jumped in the car and made our way back ... read more
